My son is obsessed with Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches. It’s been this way for 5 years now and while I don’t mind sending them to school with him each morning (on wheat bread, of course), I still get worried that I’m being a “lazy mom” by not making it interesting or mixing it up enough.

I’ve even gotten comments about it from his teachers. -_-

Of course, my rational self says, “if that’s what he wants to eat…”, but my mom self cringes just a little every day.

Seeing as the peanut butter and jelly part doesn’t look it’s changing anytime soon, I can definitely think of ways to dress it up and provide a more well-rounded meal that he’ll be excited about eating.

And of course, I can’t help but imagine his little squeal when he opens up his lunch box to find cute Bento characters waiting for him inside.

So I’ve done a few things to create this new and improved Peanut Butter and Jelly lunch. I’m making use of the Organic items and am also offering a variety of fresh side nibbles in a cute and fun presentation with some kawaii Bento tools to help round out the nutrients provided.

I have some Japanese stores local to me, but if you don’t have the same luxury, you can also pick up all these Bento goodies online at Amazon!

The bear sandwich press is very easy and straightforward to use.

Spread peanut butter and jelly in middle and place into bottom portion of press.

Cover with top and press down for a few seconds.

Remove the sandwich bear pocket and use face press to create eyes, nose and mouth indentation.

I then sliced some apples and used this Animal Cutter and Press set to form flower shapes. These stainless steel vegetable cutters are great for making shapes from cheese like I did, or slices of carrot work really well too!

The animal food picks are a surefire way to get kids to eat their veggies, who could resist?

My son actually loved this so much, he asked me to take a picture and text it to his grandparents – hahah!
