You have probably heard of AFLAC, or at least would know the commercial with the duck quacking out “AFLAC”! I am here to tell you that AFLAC is totally worth checking into as a supplemental insurance. It is now said that 57% of all employees estimate they waste at least $750 each year on mistakes made with insurancebenefits elections each year. Here is a link showing how money is lost by choosing benefits that are not the right fit for you and your family loses money.
We learned the hard way a couple of years ago how invaluable it is to choose the right insurance benefits. My husband has a full-time job with benefits and works part-time at a fire department as well without benefits. In December 2010, we were making room in our front room for the Christmas tree we just bought when part of a table we were moving crashed down on my husband’s big toe. It broke his big toe. This break did not prevent him from working at his full-time job, however he was out of work at the fire department for 6 weeks. This was detrimental.
We were a one-income household at the time and really counted on that paycheck from the fire department to help us out with bills. To lose that income from coming in and it being the holidays on top of it was financially devastating to us. This is when we learned how valuable it would have been to have AFLAC. They have so many benefits that go above and beyond what your coverage with a traditional insurance policy. For instance, if we had AFLAC at the time of my husband’s injury we would have received all of his pay through them while he was out of work. Examples of other benefits are them paying on top of what your insurance may have covered. For instance, if you are in the hospital for at least 18 hours for treatment of injuries sustained in a covered accident, they will pay $250 a day for each day of hospital confinement for up to 365 days.
There are way too many benefits to go into. But they have several different policies. We now have an Accident Policy and a Short Term Disability Policy. I think they are extremely affordable and they cover the whole family. I feel much more secure knowing that we have this additional coverage to count on. You never know what is going to happen, so it is good to plan for the future.
While my husband was still out of work from the fire department we drove to the department when enrollment for AFLAC was being offered in January 2011. During open enrollment it is very important to make sure you have the right policy for you and your family so you can not only the best coverage you need, but also not waste money that could be spent elsewhere.
I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Aflac and received a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.
