Make Your Exercise Count! Give a child a @ShotAtLife #VDay10k

Racking Up Miles for Shot@Life

How is everyone doing with their February fitness goals? Are you rocking them or getting rolled over by them? I’ve completely changed my diet (along with Ben’s) this year by cutting out most carbs and making sure to eat healthy snacks. With the help of my FitBit, I’ve been able to keep an eye on my activity goals too!

I’ve been on the road all month, and I’m trying to make sure I keep burning up the steps and knocking out calories. My favorite part about all this is that not only am I getting personal health benefits from all this exercise, but I’m also helping my favorite charity with a free app called Charity Miles. This is a non-profit organization that let’s you earn 25 cents a mile when walking for your favorite charity, just teamed up with Shot@Life and the United Nations Foundation!

In honor of Valentine’s week, we’re giving you a shot to the heart with a big shot-out to our newest partner, Shot@Life! Puns and awesome 80’s music videos aside, Shot@Life totally rocks! They’re leading the charge to protect children worldwide by providing life-saving vaccines where they’re most needed.

One child dies every 20 seconds from a disease that could be prevented with a vaccine, that’s three lives lost in a minute. For less than a $1, a child can get a life saving vaccine through the efforts of Shot@Life. Vaccines have saved more children than any other medical intervention in the last 50 years. So, for every four miles you walk or run with Charity Miles, a child receives a life-saving vaccine!

Since Charity Miles launched last June, over 55,000 people have walked, run and biked 600,000 miles to raise more than $130,000 for their charity partners, like Feeding America, the ASPCA, Wounded Warrior Project and others.Charity Miles needs your help as they compete for the SXSW People’s Choice award. It’s the equivalent of winning an Oscar for their organization and #EveryVoteMatters.

It’s just two clicks that take less than a minute, and they’re randomly giving away a limited edition t-shirt to twenty lucky voters! Really want a shirt, you can increase your chances by voting more than once, with using a different browser. (one vote per browser)

Please vote and share this amazing app with friends, family and random strangers at the gym or on the trail! It’s an easy FREE way to donate to a great cause with nothing out of pocket from you! Just remember – every four miles of activity provides a vaccine that could save a child’s life.

Thru the end of February you can also participate in the UN Foundation’s #VDay10k Challenge. This challenge will run through the month of February when you’ll be able to donate your distance to a variety of United Nations Foundation campaigns. The participating campaigns will include Girl Up, where your miles will help a teen girl in a developing country safely attend school, Nothing but Nets where you will help protect a family from malaria, and Shot@Life where yourmiles will help to provide life-saving vaccines to children around the world that need it most.

If you’d like to do more to help Shot@Life, then please join team Surf and Sunshine at Shot@Life. Your voice and your support can change a child’s life forever. Just $20 immunizes a child against 4 preventable diseases and very possibly saves their life. Give a child the chance to grow up and BE something. Give them a Shot at Life.

I am a 2013 Shot@Life Champion and have been invited to Washington, D.C to attend the summit, expenses paid.
