A dream is a wish your heart makes when you’re fast asleep.
I still remember my first pair of super awesome light up shoes. Mine were cooler than cool because they also had Cinderella on them! I remember I got them one night shortly after the start of 1st grade and I couldn’t sleep that night in anticipation of showing them off the next day. While it feels like so long ago, it’s nothing when you compare it to the fact Cinderella was first released in the 1950′s. The timelessness of Disney Classics never ceases to amaze me.
As I sat watching the Cinderella Diamond Edition I realized that I couldn’t put my finger on exactly what makes Cinderella a classic. The compassion and loyalty of her animal friends makes me smile. The music is timeless. I’m still convinced I have my own fairy god mother…she’s just late, really late. But it’s not a single one of these things that make the movie, it’s all of them together.
What makes the Diamond Edition awesome isn’t the story, it’s the same one I have in my movie collection. It’s the Blu Ray and Bonus Futures that make this movie priceless. One of my favorite features is the Disney Cinderella Second Screen Storybook. Its available for free download for your iOS device. Disney’s second screen, in combination with your Blu Ray player will really bring the movie to life. Not only will Cinderella’s Fairy godmother be able to interact with your child – even saying their name- but the kids will be able to help Cinderella achieve her dreams through this interactive storytelling experience.
Speaking of the Fairy Godmother, did you know she is based on a real person? Mary Alice O’Connor was the wife of one of Disney’s animators. I was recently able to meet her daughter JP O’Connor and hearing the life of this extraordinary woman inspired me to be a better person. She dedicated her life to volunteerism, community service and giving back to others so it’s only fitting that the Fairy Godmother was modeled after her. I highly recommend watching The Real Fairy Godmother special feature.
Tangled fanatics are going to enjoy the new short Tangled Ever After. Rapunzel and Flynn Rider are getting married! Will there day go smoothly? During the ceremony, Pascal and Maximus lose the rings and have to find them before the ring exchange! My daughter has already watched this short over and over and over.
You also won’t want to miss the never before seen alternate opening scene, 2 deleted scenes and so much more. Here is a clip for your viewing pleasure.
Cinderella Diamond Edition released on October 2nd and is only available for a limited time before it goes back to the vault.
Thank you to Disney for providing a copy for purposes of this review. All opinions are my own.
