Hunger Games Catching Fire #OhSoCapitol Fashion: Johanna Mason
In promotion of the upcoming Hunger Games film, “Catching Fire,” the studio created an imaginative online publication called Capitol Couture that’s slowly releasing images of the cast through featured “Profiles.” Already having showcased the exuberant Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks), it made sense that District 7’s Johanna Mason would be featured second.
Returning for the 75th Hunger Games, Johanna Mason takes on a futuristic forest queen appearance for the opening ceremony and featured promotional images. Fans of the books and those who have seen the first movie, know that before the Hunger Games begin, tributes wear outfits made to symbolize their respective districts. Mason, coming from District 7 where the main industry is lumber, wears a conceptual take on lumber and paper with her couture dress.
Complete with three-inch false lashes applied to her lower lash line to intensify her disarming gaze, metallic eye shadow and bronze gloss all add to her rustic yet glamorous look that transforms Mason from gladiator to goddess.
With this being Johanna Mason’s second time entering the deathly arena it’s no wonder her appearance is flawless!
In the upcoming film, Johanna Mason (Jena Malone) is about to embark on her second Hunger Games as a tribute, an event that victors have never had to face twice before. The rules had stated that when a sole victor survives the Hunger Games, they are immune from having to compete in the deathly games as a tribute again and are rewarded for their win with prizes and financial security. However, with Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) cheating the Capitol by both winning the 74th Hunger Games, President Snow looks to reinstate his authority by having select victors return for the 75th Hunger Games known as The Quarter Quell.
Mason was interestingly one of the youngest tributes to partake in the Hunger Games her first time around. Pretending to be a weakling, feigning hunger and fatigue, Mason was actually sly and cunning, having unparalleled skills in throwing axes and wrestling that allowed her to be the last surviving tribute and become a victor some time ago.
Known for her beauty, delicate frame and extraordinary manipulative survival skills, fans will enjoy watching Johanna Mason in the arena as she competes against other fellow Hunger Games tributes in the film coming out November 22, 2013.
