As a person who spends a lot of time around technology I sometimes begin to feel a bit jaded. For instance, there are dozens of cell phones on the market today running off essentially 3 operating systems. At times it can feel like they’re mostly the same with a few shining stars in the mix. To deal with the seeming monotony, my brain has developed a system – I immediately look for anything that sets a phone apart from the rest. I think it goes without being said but if it’s just like all the others, why would I want commit to it for the next 2 years of my life?

When I received the new Moto X from Sprint for review through my Mom Central #SprintMom Campaign, there were three shining features that immediately set it apart.

Active Display

At first Active Display may not seem like that big of a deal but when you think about it, it’s a pretty genius future. If I’m like most people, we pull out our phones hundreds of times of day to tap the unlock button in order to check the time, see if we’ve missed calls/text/emails before hitting the button again and sliding it back into our pockets.

With the Moto X you will never have to do that again. Anytime I slide my phone out of my pocket, or give it a flick as it sits on my desk, the pertinent information is automatically displayed. If I want a little more info, I can touch the display and decide if I actually want to turn the phone on at that point.

Touchless Control

Thanks to technology called Google Now I can check the weather, get directions or do just about anything without even touching the phone. I simply begin a sentence with “OK Google, Now….”

  • “Okay  Google, now call Ben.”
  • “Okay Google, now set my alarm for 8:30am”
  • “Okay Google, now check the weather.”

Quick Capture

Chasing have a short crazed man a toddler all day trying to snap the perfect picture can be exhausting. I can’t tell you how many times I was too busy fumbling with my lock screen and then finding my camera app to capture that picture perfect moment. We’ve all been there right? With the new Quick Capture feature on the Moto X I can launch the camera just by flicking my wrist – even when the screen is off.

This feature came in handy the other day at Whistler’s first T-Ball practice. I was able to snap this great slo-mo video of him nailing the ball towards Dad who missed catching it! I was also able to take photos AT THE SAME TIME I was shooting video just by touching the screen. I LOVE this feature!!

(Make sure the video below is set to HD quality!)

I participated in an Ambassador Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Sprint. I received product samples to facilitate my review.

Some other features to note:

  • Dual Camera (10mp Rear Facing w/ 4x Digital Zoom, Only 2mp Front Facing :( )
  • Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
  • Sprint 4G LTE
  • Sprint TV
  • 16GB Memory and 50GB free Storage on Google Drive!
