For a long time growing up my siblings and I never realized we weren’t well off. We didn’t have cable TV or many toys but who needed them when we spent our days playing outside? Nights were spent in shared bedrooms because space was tight but we didn’t care because it meant you had someone with you when it stormed. It wasn’t until we got older and became aware of life outside of play that we realized we weren’t exactly well to do. While we weren’t poor we were lower middle class and there times when things got tight. Especially around winter and the holidays when things tend to slow down for nearly everyone in Michigan. Fortunately, my parents raised us with good values. While they were busy worrying about Christmas for us we were in our tree fort wishing we had the money to fix their worries. If I had a nickel for every time one of my siblings or I said “If I had a million dollars…” I would be rich.
My parents ended up moving up in the financial food chain as we got older and things became easier but we still couldn’t be called rich – at least in ways that involve dollars. Now that I’ve moved out on my own I still sometimes find myself starting a sentence with “If I had a million dollars…” But really, these days a million dollars won’t get you far if your plans are as big as mine. I should aim a little higher – like Publishers Clearing House high.
They’re giving away $5000 a week - FOREVER. The Publishers Clearing House Forever Prize lets you leave a legacy. Win, and you get $5,000 a week for your life, then after that, you get to choose someone to receive $5,000 a week for their life.
My head is sort of spinning at the possibilities – charities I would donate to, college funds to set up, retiring my parents, finally taking that honeymoon we have been dreaming of… The lives I could change, the people I could help and the things I could experience have me seeing dollar signs. The easy part would be choosing my beneficiary – my kid! How would you spend the money if you won? And who would be your beneficiary? Make sure you enter to win because they are drawing a winner this august.
