If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that one of my very first posts was about creating a Jungle Themed Nursery for my son within our tiny 500sf beach cottage back in 2011. It was a labor of love that took weeks to accomplish, but in the end was entirely worth it, even if just for the way his face lit up every time he saw his walls.

As luck would have it, his room was the only one we didn’t completely rebuild right from the get go. After our first “winter” we quickly realized that we needed to tear down the walls in order to install some much needed insulation and new double-paned windows. So you can imagine my sadness when I came home from a press trip to this:

Unfortunately, I didn’t have the time (or any ideas) to create a new mural and the walls have been plain ever since. So when I was invited to apply to be a #DisneyPaintMom, I jumped at the opportunity. Not only was it because it was an assignment to re-design a room in the house, but that it was for the new Glidden Disney Paint. All of a sudden, I knew right away how I could personalized Whistler’s room…with a Toy Story theme! He’s been obsessed with Woody and Buzz so it was a perfect fit.

After deciding on an image for Buzz Lightyear to use, Whistler and I headed to Walmart to pick up some Disney Paint and party supplies – after all, we’re going to want to show off our new room to our friends and family when it’s finished! On a side note, I was able to pick up food, drinks, party favors, games, activities, party supplies, a $50 gift card to raffle off at the party AND all my paint supplies and stay within budget. I was impressed and also glad I didn’t have to run to another store to get everything I needed!

I loved how the paint colors were organized into palettes according to character or movie, and even though there wasn’t one for Toy Story, it was still pretty easy to pick out the green and purple I needed for Buzz. At first glance, the paint “department” at my local Walmart (which is really just an aisle and looked smaller than ideal), but in actuality it had everything I needed for my project.

  • Speck-Tacular: A clear, ready-to-use topcoat that provides a sparkling confetti finish that can be applied over any painted surface.
  • Magnificent Metallic: A metallic paint, tintable to 24 unique colors.
  • Great Slate: A paint that turns any surface into a chalkboard. Available in ready-to-use black or tintable to a variety of colors.
  • Ready, Set, Glow!: A translucent yellow, ready-to-use paint that allows any surface to glow in the dark.

With a “space” theme, of course we chose Ready, Set, Glow! (I’m so giddy just thinking about how this is going to turn out!)

With Whistler only being 3, I can really appreciate that Disney Paint is a premium-quality, ultra-durable paint that was formulated to withstand wear and tear, as well as repeated scrubs and washes. Everything that you can imagine your child doing to the walls when you’re not looking (and even when you are) like drawing with crayons and pencils, “moon walking” with their shoes, wiping dinner off, attempting new wave cranberry juice splash art – you name it, it’s made to wash off easily without removing the magical color.

So now that I have everything I need, I’m excited to get started. Here is a sneak peak at what’s to come.

Stay tuned for my next update and I’d love to hear any suggestions or creative tips you might have for a Buzz Lightyear themed room!
