I walked into the supermarket today and was saddened by what I saw. Aisles and aisles of back to school supplies. Are you kidding me?! August has just barely arrived. School is over a month away, what is the rush? We have only made it the zoo once, and we still haven’t been able to plan the camping trip we keep talking about. Summer is slipping by so quickly and we haven’t been able to enjoy it yet. So my family and I compiled a list.
Our End of Summer Bucket List
I spent numerous evenings last summer taking part in a friendly beach volleyball tournament. Somehow I’ve only made it to the beach a handful of days this summer. Life is just too short to spend summer days slaving away.
I just discovered there is a splash park not far from our home. It’s divided into sections based on age and ability so there is something for everyone in the family. It’s ideal because my daughter is still just a hair to short for the watermarks yet.
Last year we attempted our first ever camping trip as a family. We had a tent, sleeping bags, smores, a great camping ground – what could go wrong? Everything. We planned the trip on the HOTTEST day of the year so my toddler was miserable. Then Michigan weather did what it does best and changed drastically. It went from unbearably hot to storming and we were camping under a tree! We didn’t make it through the night before escaping to a friend house. Since then we have been trying to plan a do-over.
There is nothing like having a backyard barbecue with friends in the summer. Kids running around the yard, boating on the lake and delicious aromas wafting from the grill. I feel nostalgic just thinking about it.
A Movie in the Park
Our local park offers free family movies during the summer. We pack a blanket, picnic supplies, a Frisbee and make an evening out of it. When I think of movies in the park I think of movies about summer I think of foot tapping, get up and dance numbers. I can still sing every word to Summer Lovin’.
Speaking of summer movies and music, Disney just released it’s epic summer hit: Teen Beach Movie. We received a complimentary copy of the movie and really enjoyed it. The songs are catchy and my daughter enjoyed the bright colors and dancing. I might have caught myself tapping my foot to the songs once or twice too. Check out the trailer below – What do you think, will it become a classic?
Brady and Mackenzie, are magically transported into a 1960s beach movie where they must try to blend in until they can find their way out. But it’s hard to blend in when you’re caught in the middle of rivalry between surfers and bikers and they accidentally change the love story of the movie! TEEN BEACH MOVIE released on DVD July 30th.
