Striving to Be a More Present Parent #ShareWhatsGood

My baby blessed us with her presence long before we ever planned for her. But that just means we get to love her longer. The one thing I promised myself, and her, was that I would always strive to be in the moment. I would take the time to play with her. I would patiently answer her millions of questions.

I promised to be present but I admit, there are times where I fail. There are days that don’t seem to have enough hours. Days where patience is in low supply but high demand. It’s those nights where I can’t wait for bed time. Not so that I can have the few hours of peace and quiet that follow, but so that we can snuggle together in bed for that uninterrupted hour.

We play games like High and Low, where she tells me the high light and low light of her day; and Favorite, where we share a favorite characteristic of the other person. We read one bed time book and one short rhyming book. Then we wrap up the night singing bed time songs or making up a story together. I love that hour.

I wish that we could have one more hour each day. One hour to play outside on the swings, to run around catching fire flies or with our favorite activity, crafting! Unfortunately I can’t add an extra hour to the day but I can create more small moments. Moments at the kitchen table, as we brush our teeth in the mornings or while we’re running our errands. One moment can be all the world.
