How to Save Money on Gas + $50 Vons/Safeway Gift Card Giveaway #VonsGasRewards

I love living in southern California, but seriously, this gas gauging is getting plain ridiculous! Putting gas in your tank can be a huge expense to keep up with on a weekly basis. The price is in constant flux so when the price is low everyone tries to get their gas tanks filled up, but what about the times when the price is at a high? That is the time when paying for gas can be a huge challenge on anyone’s budget.

I love that gas companies are now putting rewards systems in place. Not only does this give you more incentive to use that particular brand of gas, but at a time when gas is so hard to afford it is nice to have a program that actually reduces the cost!

We’ve always been Vons shoppers – there is one within walking distance to our house and I love the quality produce they carry. Ever since they started the Vons Just for U program, I’ve made it a point to shop there first. I really can’t say enough good things about the customized savings and discounts I get based on exactly the items I BUY. Anyway, I was happy to learn that on top of this awesome program, they also have a gas rewards program in place. Did you know that? They recently made an update to the their Gas Reward Points program and Gas Reward Points are even more convenient because you can now redeem them at participating Chevron and Texaco stations!

Here’s how the program works:

Just shop at Vons or Pavilions with your Vons Club Card or Pavilions ValuePlus Card:

  • Each $1 spent on groceries = 1 point
  • Each $1 spent on qualifying gift cards = 2 points
  • Each $1 spent on pharmacy items = 1 points

Every 100 points earns you 10¢ per gallon Reward for a single fill-up at a participating Chevron or Texaco station. You can use up to 20¢ per gallon in Rewards for a single fill-up.

  • 100 points = 10¢ per gallon in Rewards
  • 200 points = 20¢ per gallon in Rewards

There is no fee to join the rewards program at Vons; you just join VonsClub Card when you shop. Then you will be able to track all of your points on your store receipts or by registering online at Vons.com and clicking the My Account link at the top of the page. Make sure you use your points when you can though since they will expire at the end of the following month in which they were earned. For example, and points earned this month in November will expire at the end of December.

One of the great benefits to this program is that there are no limits as to how many points you can earn. Although there is a little restriction to how many you can redeem at each visit. You are limited to redeeming 200 points for a 20¢ per gallon Reward in a single fill-up (2 Rewards for 10¢ per gallon each) at a Chevron or Texaco station, and a limit of 1000 points for a single fill-up (10 Rewards for 10¢ per gallon each) at a Vons gas station.

It is definitely worth it to get your free VonsClub Card to take advantage of this rewards system. Its a free membership that pays you back. Be sure to follow Vons/Pavillions on Twitter to stay up to date on deals and coupons too!

My husband is in the military and we only have one vehicle, so he usually drives himself to and from his base to eliminate the extra use of gas. With the way gas prices are, we like to only use our car when necessary.

I try to run errands when I’ll already be by each place for another reason. I also take advantage of gas discounts offered by my grocery store.
