Planes Fire and Rescue 1One of the things I love about Disney movies is that they’re packed with positive messages to young viewers. In an age where kids have access to some truly questionable programming, its a relief to know exactly what you’re getting with a Disney movie. What really got me about Disney Planes: Fire and Rescue was that the movie is dedicated to firefighters everywhere. But it’s filled with really great messages for kids and I wanted to share a few of my favorites.

It Isn’t The End of The World

In the 2013 Disney Planes, we watched with baited breath as Dusty Crophopper battled his way to becoming a racing plane. But it only takes mere moments for Dusty’s dream of racing to come to a screeching halt long before the finish line with an injury. But you know what? It isn’t the end of the world. Dusty is sad, of course. But then he has a long hard look at his life and as he is standing at the cross roads, a new path opens up. Firefighting figuratively and literally take him in a completely different direction, and across country. From the beginning there isn’t too much dwelling on what no longer is – only a focus on what lies ahead.

PLANES FIRE & RESCUE

Teamwork, Teamwork, Teamwork

Firefighters do everything as a team. In fact, I learned first hand that at no point does a firefighter ever have his back to a fire, it’s always to a team mate – often times one of them is following the other blindly. The same holds true in Planes: Fire and Rescue. From training, to fighting and rescuing, Dusty quickly learns the importance of teamwork.

Real Everyday Heroes

In both the film and today’s society we tend to treat our athletes like royalty – and leaving true heroes like our Firefighters, Police Departments and Military left in the shadows. In the film (and in life) we saw first hand the way rescue rangers budget was cut to fund more glamorous projects. Thus the need for their motto “better than new.” Real heroes are the people who go about their work quietly, dedicating their lives to act of saving others. Of course, we can’t forget that Planes: Fire and Rescue is dedicated to firefighters everywhere.

Planes Fire and Rescue
Bring home the thrill of a lifetime with Disney’s Planes: Fire & Rescue. This heart-pumping comedy-adventure features a dynamic crew of elite aircraft devoted to protecting historic Piston Peak National Park from raging wildfires. When world-famous air racer Dusty learns that he may never race again, he must shift gears and is launched into the world of aerial firefighting. Dusty joins forces with a team of veteran firefighters; together, they battle a massive fire, and Dusty learns what it takes to become a true hero. Keep kids entertained after the movie with these fun coloring pages and worksheets.
