When I was asked to become a P-Touch Ambassador and use the Brother P-Touch PTD 200 Label Maker for one month within my home, I knew that I would be using it to organize, and label things I had put away; making them more accessible to myself and my family. What I didn’t know is that I would become a label maniac and discover a new way to get myself organized outdoors as well.

A couple weeks ago I shared with you my space saving container herb and veggie garden in a sad, sad state. Well, this morning I finally put on my gardening gear and decided enough was enough. I went out to the store, picked up some plants and got down and dirty.

Many have asked where I got these fence containers from. They are actually something called Earthbox Stackable Mini Gardenir?t=easchecou 20&l=ur2&o=1. They come in a set of 3 and are meant to be stacked on top of one another and used for vertical gardening. I found these Flower Box Railing Bracketsir?t=easchecou 20&l=as2&o=1&a=B000BZ1IAA and placed them on top one by one instead!

Last year, with 6 garden containers and a propensity to plant a little something here and a little something there, I ended up loosing track of what was where. My solution this year was to label my containers with my handy Brother PTouch PTD 200 Label Maker.

Today I planted Cilantro, Chives, Purple Basil, Sweet Basil, Thai Basil, Rosemary, Italian Oregano, Apple Mint, Jalapeno, Red Chile, Serrano, Bell Pepper, Cayenne, Sweet Corn and Raspberries. (We also have grapes, blueberries, blackberries and tomatoes!) Labeling recognizable plants may seem a bit silly, but keep in mind that there are often times when I ask Ben to go out and grab me some “xx” and he comes back with “yy”.

Of course the biggest convenience is being able to label containers that have seeds and plants that look identical, like these pepper plants. I can’t tell these guys apart, can you?

Good thing I don’t have to now that they are clearly labeled :) And, now when I walk up to my house I can smile again because it looks like this

Oh! And not only my house (inside AND out) more organized but I’ve found some inventive uses for this label machine. I believe that education is important at a young age. There are so many great habits and learning techniques you can utilize at an early age. One of the simplest learning techniques is word recognition. By placing labels such as  “Oven,” “Door,” “ToyBox” on those items, Whistler is learning to associate that group of letters to that item without even realizing it. He doesn’t have to be able to read to begin recognizing the word association. We even have this game where I will ask him, “Whistler, how do you spell chair?” and he’ll run over to the sticker on the chair and spell it out. He LOVES this simple game and often asks to play. (You could also use the same concept to teach your children a second language!)

How would a Brother P-Touch label maker make your life easier this spring? What tips do you have to share?

I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Brother P-Touch and received a product sample to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
