Right at this moment, how many unused toys do you have lying around? Are they spilling out of boxes stuffed in the basement or attic? Do you keep meaning to donate them or sell them whenever you get around to putting together a garage sale? Instead of letting them sit around gathering dust, you can donate them to Second Chance Toys. This organization takes gently used toys, cleans them, and gives them to underprivileged children around the country.

I'm beginning to think this kid has too many toys...

Second Chance Toys was started by Sarah Lipton when she saw so many useable, plastic toys being tossed out for the garbage. Sarah and her mom began collecting used toys and washing them to donate to churches and charities. Now as a college graduate, Sarah has continued her generous work and has even paired with Kohl’s employee volunteer program and 1-800-Junk, which helps haul the thousands of toys that Second Chance Toys donates. This incredible organization has donated more than 150,000 toys to children in need.

Currently, they are planning nationwide toy pickups as well as a massive toy drive in Times Square. These donations will give toys to more the 100,000 kids that cannot afford toys and have so modestly requested a toy of their very own. Think about all the things your own children have and the piles of toys they hardly ever touch and think about how thrilled an underserved child would be just to receive one. This is a country wide toy drive and you can even start your own collection in your community. Please visit the site today and see how you can help a child in need with a simple gesture.

  1. Um….we have at least half a million un-used toys. I will be looking into this. I am drowning in a sea of colorful plastic. :)
