Singapore

Growing up I knew that I wanted to get outside of the state, the country even and see more of the world. There were so many things I didn't know about and even more experiences waiting to happen. I wanted to see, taste, touch, read and learn as much as possible about the world. I haven't got their yet but I'm working on it. In the mean time I've been dreaming about the places I want to go, pinning, snipping and saving articles on places of interest.

The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page. – St. Augustine of Hippo

As I was perusing Earth’s Finest City Guide – Singapore I was keeping the list of places I wanted to go in mind. Aspen, Dubai, London, Charleston, Singapore… Singapore? After seeing the country featured in their 6th issue I was intrigued. Mostly because I knew so little about the island located in southeast Asia. But I was sold on it's overview. In addition to being a foodie's dream, Singapore offers breathtaking orchid gardens, golden Mosque, wild life, luxurious hotels, and did  I mention the food?

The guide was full of all the best places to eat, see and stay but here are my top picks.

New Majestic

Stay

The Fullerton Hotel is a fabulous 1928-era hotel overlooking the Singapore canal and the city. Meanwhile the New Majestic Hotel is a hodgepodge of 30 rooms each featuring a unique aspect. One might feature a giant red blowfish floating on a bright blue wall, or Japanese lanterns dangling alongside a mural of geishas playing tennis. I find both hotels to be appealing in their own unique way, in fact I have yet to decide which I would stay at.

 ODP Food

Eat

Singapor is easily known for its amazing cuisine at refined French restaurants and amazing hawker markets – a foodies dream. A hawker centre is an open air food center housing many stalls that sell a variety of inexpensive food. It's like they were built just for me, yum!

And after eating my weight in nibbles here in there I'll have to take a rest, at a proper sit-down eatery.

Chef Ryan Clift menu with casual—eclectic European fare in an urban-rustic setting at ODP (Open Door Policy). The menu features such comfort food as braised beef cheek and an apple crumble, "but know the beef might have mochi potatoes as a side, and that prawn cocktail comes with a whipped rose sauce. Such tweaks on tradition accurately summarize Singapore itself, and make for a good bookend to your time here."

 Masjid Sultan Mosque

See

I have always been open to the study of religion and it's influence on it's people. So visiting a Moque has been on my list of experiences for quite some time. The MASJID SULTAN MOSQUE is a stunning structure that offers daily tours.
Tip: You’ll have to remove your shoes and don a robe if your clothing is not modest enough.
