We first met these banana eaters in Despicable Me as the sidekicks of Gru, and since then they’ve been taking the world by storm. It seems that no one is immune to their lovable ways but what do we really know about these guys other than they love being the World’s Worst Villain side kicks? We’re about to learn a whole lot more in their upcoming movie aptly titled Minions but we have a few fun trivia facts about them to share in the mean time.

11 Fun Trivia Facts about Minions

  1. All minions only have three fingers.
  2. The language minions speak is a mix of French, English, Italian, and Spanish with a bit of Korean and Russian thrown in.
  3. Evil minions are purple because purple and yellow are on opposite sides of the color spectrum.
  4. It is said that the Minions have existed since the beginning of time as yellow henchmen.
  5. In the ride “Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem” at Universal Studios, Gru has a gun that can turn humans into Minions.
  6. Tall minions all have the same haircut but each minion can sport one of 5 different haircuts. 
  7. Kevin and Stuart are now invading homes with a bunch of new Minions Mega Bloks sets! One of our favorites is the Despicable Me Supervillain Jet.  It’s a fully buildable jet features an opening cockpit and canopy, working ejector seat, two side launchers, and a trap door for quick escapes. Gru would be proud. 
  8. One-eyed minions don’t tend to be tall.
  9. Minions can survive in outer space, which leads us to wonder if that means they don’t need oxygen to breathe?
  10. The Minions were partly inspired by the Jawas in the original Star Wars franchise, and the Oompa Loompas in Willy Wonka.
  11. A third Despicable Me film has also been confirmed by Universal for Summer 2017.
