Who can make this Christmas Craft?

I love that this project is easy enough for kids as well as grown-ups with busy lives (like me!).

They add such fun and festive cheer for the dinner table and could also be used to decorate your home.

Bonus: these can be made ahead of time and stored until you’re ready to use them.

They’ll be the perfect Christmas tablescape accent for your family’s holiday dinner.

What do I need to make these Christmas Place Cards?

These candy cane card holders are extremely easy to make and you might even already have everything on hand!

For each holiday place card setting, you will need the following supplies:

Do I leave the plastic on the candy canes?

I removed the plastic that the candy canes were individually wrapped in.

If you think your guests might want to eat them or take them home as favors, you may want to leave this protective plastic on.

I would recommend using some clear scotch tape to bind them together so the candy canes will still be edible.

What type of glue or adhesive should I use?

When choosing which glue or adhesive to use, you will need to consider if you want your guests to be able to eat these or not.

Yes, I want to be able to eat my candy cane place card holders

DO NOT USE a hot glue gun if you want these to be edible. Keep in mind that the hot glue will melt right through the plastic.

I recommend leaving the protective plastic on and then using permanent double-sided glue dots, clear craft glue or double sided runner tape.

If using tape, consider wrapping the tape around two full times to help hold the candy canes in place.

Wrap two together and then wrap the third one in on the second round.

You could also add a tiny tab of glue in the middle to help keep them stable.

Nope, they are just for decoration

If you don’t care about eating them, then I would remove the protective plastic from the candy canes and then use Method A below with a hot glue gun.

How do I bind the candy canes together?

It’s a little tricky at first, but you’ll figure out what method works best for you.

I find Method A is the easiest, but some may be more comfortable with Method B.

Method A

Place three candy canes together, back to back.

Once you have the arrangement you prefer for the candy canes, hold them (all three) tightly in your hand and level the bottom by standing the bundle up on a flat surface.

Once you are satisfied with the arrangement, you will glue or tape them together.

Place glue in the seams of where each candy cane touches the other and then wrap all three together with tape.

Method B

Run glue along one side of a single candy cane and then stick the second onto this spot.

You can eyeball the angle of the hooks, but they should form about a 60 degree angle.

When those two are set, glue on the third.

You will want to press the bundle of three on a flat surface quickly (don’t wait too long!) after applying adhesive so that you can ensure they will stand properly.

What should I use to wrap around the candy cane bundle?

You can use just about any ribbon or crafty embellishments you have on hand for the decorative outer wrap. Just grab all those holiday things you have in your craft bin.

You’ll need a minimum of about 6″ in length.

I used a gold glitter thin washi tape. You could also tie on some holiday ribbon, tinsel or sparkle trim. Use your imagination.

You could also glue on some holiday themed embellishments like sparkle pom poms, faux holiday berries, mini ornaments, Christmas charms, or mini bells.

What do I use for Christmas place cards?

Here are some cute Holiday place cards ideas. You could craft your own with colored card stock paper, use pictures or mini envelopes.

I used Santa Pocket Envelopes by Recollections™ that I found at Michaels.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find them since.

But they measure 3.5″ x 5.5″ so anything similar in size will work well when making these candy cane place card holders.
