Imagine you wake up one day to find yourself trapped in a maze, and you have no recollection of anything that existed before that moment…This terrifying situation is the premise for the science fiction series written by James Dashner. I am not usually one for science fiction, but I felt a strange relate-ability to the notion of complete helplessness when compared to my travels abroad. I love to travel, but on more than one occasion, I have felt overwhelmed by culture shock.

MAZE RUNNER: THE SCORCH TRIALS

Stepping off a plane in India at twenty two, I had lost all of my basic problem solving skills, and I suddenly found myself trapped in a country where I didn’t know anyone, I didn’t know the language, and I had to find my way with very little guidance. For three months I lived in Kerala, India trying to navigate each day in a world without any familiar elements. It was an eye opening experience. I often felt lonely and unable to function. It was very isolating, and there was no one that I could lament to about my inner turmoil.

While my experience wasn’t as extreme as the Maze Runner, I found myself routing for Thomas as he desperately tried to escape. I felt a sliver of anxiety as I recalled the same “trapped” feeling as I tried to get from point A to point B without knowing what was around the next corner. It has drawn me to this series in a way I would never have expected.

MAZE RUNNER: THE SCORCH TRIALS

Now, the next movie in the Maze Runner series will be in theaters September 18th, and I am impatiently awaiting the excitement and terror of the next set of challenges that Thomas will face. This tale is full of action and elements of horror that will keep you guessing. If you haven’t seen the first movie, the upcoming release of the sequel is all the more reason to get on the band wagon.

MAZE RUNNER: THE SCORCH TRIALS

Spoiler Alert – Thomas and the other boys from the maze escape in the first movie, and it appears there is a glimpse of hope. In the next movie, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trial, Thomas and his band of survivors find an even more harsh reality on the outside of the maze. They wander the wasteland know as Scorch and fend off the zombie-like Cranks while fighting through terrifying obstacles. All of their battling is to bring down the WCKD and intervene on the inhumane plans for the living. See what happens next for Thomas and the other survivors.

  1. I thought the Maze Runner was something for a generation younger than me, but I loved the Maze Runner and can’t wait to see Scorch Trials!

  2. I’m not sure if I will ever see this movie (we parents don’t really get many date movie nights), but it seems like it would be a great film. Who doesn’t love adventure?!?
