Everyone knows how much I geek out over new gadgets – especially new cell phones. So what better way to kick off my 3 week ‘vacation’ to Florida than with the delivery of a phone easily known for it’s entertainment value, the Nokia Lumia Icon.

The experience begins with a  large 5in screen that combines Nokia ClearBlack Technology, Sunlight Readability Enhancement and full HD 1080p display – making it great for a clear display even in bright sunlight, a must in the sunshine state.

Of course, entertainment is nothing if it can’t be downloaded, streamed or uploaded, in other words, shared. This Lumia Icon holds a 2.2GHz quad-core processor with 2GB RAM and a whopping 32GB internal memory, which translates into the capability to store, stream and multitask at high speed over Verizon’s 4G LTE network.

I’m sure over the course of our vacation we will be taking lots of videos. The Nokia Lumia Icon works to capture my audio and video precisely with Four (yes, 4) high performance microphones, optical image stabilization and loss-less zoom. Will it be able to keep up with shows the likes of The Blue Man Group or the attractions at Universal Studios? We will find out.

As fun as videos are, photographs are my tried and true method for capturing priceless family memories, which made me excited about the Lumia Icon’s 20MP image sensor and PureView ZEISS 6-lens camera. It’s f/2.4 aperture is actually better then my Nikkon DSLR lens! I’m also excited to see how it’s post-capture zoom works. I find that especially on vacation, family rarely slows down so I can get the perfect shot, which means I rarely use my zoom function. So I hope this will be as helpful as it seems.

Aside from the many entertainment capabilities, I’m also interested to see how Windows phones have evolved. It’s been a little over a year since I last had a windows phone and I know they have been hard at work improving their interface and app offerings. Stay tuned for my next post and follow #VZWBuzz as I’ll be sharing my week in media!

Thank you to Verizon for providing the Nokia Lumia Icon for review purposes. All opinions remain my own.
