Scottsdale is known as the “West’s Most Western Town,” immersed in Native American culture and Wild West lore. I don’t know what you look for when it comes to location in a hotel, but the W Scottsdale is in the center of it all! By now, you probably know I love to shop, and the W is near Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall and walking distance to the Entertainment District, Luxury Shopping at the Waterfront and Old Town Scottsdale.

From its perfect location, to the swanky rooms, its no wonder the W ranks #2 in TripAdvisorTravelers’ Choice®: Top 25 Trendiest Hotels in the US. There are so many reasons this hotel is a top choice to stay in Scottsdale, high on my list, it has the only infinity pool in a beach setting in the desert.

For those of you that have stayed in a W hotel, I don’t need to say anything about the dreamy, signature bed. One night of sleep and there are no words to describe the comfort. It’s simply something that makes you “wish” you didn’t have to get up in the morning.

The room was well equipped with a large closet and long desk with plenty of space to work and charge my many tech gadgets and cameras.

True to typical W style, the layout was a sort of modern open concept with the bathroom area that overlooked the rest of the room. While the shower and toilet had frosted privacy doors, there was also a wooden panel that you could slide to partition off the mirror/sink area as well, if needed.

Although the room did not have an in-room coffee maker, I was pleased to discover that they offered complimentary fresh brew every morning downstairs in the Living Room from 6-10am.

My #2 favorite spot in the room was this chair. Positioned right near my corner window with a great view, it was the perfect place to curl up with a good book.

If you decide to skip the rental car or plan on having a few drinks, you can use The Hospitality Trolley, a free and easy way to explore north and south Scottsdale. Want something a little more stylish? Take advantage of W Scottsdale’s complimentary Acura Experience. An Acura MDX is available to take you anywhere within a 5 mile radius of the W daily from 10AM – 8PM.

If shopping isn’t your forte’ but golf is, you’re also surrounded by Arizona championship golf courses. The Phoenician Golf Course is a 27-hole championship golf course designed by Ted Robinson. Its challenging course is accompanied by the breathtaking scenery of the Sonoran Desert for a memorable golf outing.

I could live on Sushi, and the W is home to Scottsdale’s favorite sushi restaurant, Sushi Roku (another reason its #2 in trendy hotels).  The spectacular dining room has large rock boulders, teak covered floors and ceiling, and water and fire elements that create a dynamic atmosphere. The diverse menu offers more than sushi, and ingredients are flown in daily to create a menu that includes signature specialties like the Colorado lamb chops marinated in soy garlic and spicy jumbo pan-fried shrimp. They are moderately priced and even offer an excellent Bento Box Lunch deal for just $14.95. They have several options to choose from to create the perfect bento that suits your taste. I received more food than I could eat – Sashimi, salad, miso soup, white rice and shishito peppers – and would highly recommend it to anyone staying here!

Want to go for a refreshing swim after a long day of shopping or golf? This pool is the place to be with underwater lighting and music, and can be cooled on those steaming Arizona days. The W Scottsdale’s WET pool deck, located on the roof, is open 24/7  and on weekends the DJ spins the latest beats from 12-5PM. *NOTE* This resort, disappointingly does not have a spa/jacuzzi. The concierge did say we could get a ride to the sister resort to use theirs, but it seemed a little too much effort for my taste.

And if you’re one of the people that still *needs* to work out, even while on vacation, the W Scottsdale will not disappoint. Not only was the gym well equipped with both cardio and weight machines, they also offered free weights and a large punching bag – my favorite! They also get an A++++ for offering chilled towels and apples – both of which I enjoyed on the walk back to my room.
