Fruit Skewers Recipe: Red, White and Blue Stars and Stripes
Perfect for a Memorial Day or Fourth of July party or just to have as a sweet summer treat, this stars and stripes fruit skewers idea is easy to make and kid-friendly!
1watermelonlarge enough for your star-shaped cookie cutters
1packagefresh blueberries
Instructions
Wash the blueberries and cut the watermelon into slices that are about ¾ of an inch thick. Don't go much thinner because they may not stay on the sticks.
Use a star shaped cookie cutter to make star shapes from your watermelon slices. If you don't have one, just do your best with a knife! Quickly eat the scraps before the kids notice or make a delicious fruit smoothie out of them.
Add a few blueberries to one end of the stick and then slide the stick into one of the corners for the stars.
Aiming for the middle so it will be balanced and stay in place, try to put the stick at least a 1/3 of the way into the melon.
Store chilled in the refrigerator, lying flat and covered.
Stand them up in a sturdy small vase or lay flat on a plate when ready to serve.
