Making Memories with Mustache Props

Looking through my daughters pictures the other day I felt like crying. Except for professional pictures that we had done there are very few with myself in them. We do arts and crafts together, take trips to the zoo in the summer, and build sandcastles at the beach but you would never know I was there.  I’m always the one behind the camera lens, capturing the moment. It makes me sad to think that someday she may look back on these pictures and wonder where I was. When I got my new HTC DNA phone, the feature that stood out the most to me was that it had a wide angle lens. (this means you get more picture without having to be far away). Why is this the feature I like best? Because it means that I get to be IN the pictures from now on with my little girl – without the need or help of a 3rd person!

Today we had our first mommy, daughter photo shoot that didn’t involve a professional photographer. Just my HTC DNA phone and some silly mustache props we made from construction paper.

If you want to make your own Mustache props they are super easy. If you can’t freehand, there are tons of free templates online. You can even find hats, ties, and frames. I found a lot of people used wooden sticks but with a toddler bendy straws worked better for us. Not only were they soft and easy to hold but we could cut them to size and their bendability made it so she could maneuver it more easily.

I look at these pictures and I can’t help but laugh. You wouldn’t know it from her serious face in some of these (she was really concentrating) but we had so much fun today. It’s the first time she had ever used props like these and she got a kick out of it. My heart feels so happy to have captured these memories with her.  Maddilyn is only little for a short while, before I know it she will be too grown up to spend the day at the zoo or having a silly photo shoot with mommy.  It’s nice to be captured in the moment, making memories with her.

HTC DNA phone was provided by Verizon Wireless. All opinions are original.

This is so funny! My husband bought fake moustaches about a month ago and we took pics and posted it on my FB. They are so much fun! My kids are 3 and 5 so seeing thick moustaches was funny!

This would be fun to do with one of my friends, as he and I always like taking goofy pictures.

I’m so glad you made the time and a point to be in the pictures with your daughter…I’m always behind the camera…and I think, if I died, my kids would be hard pressed to remember me in the vacation pics, etc.. On top of that…I hate having my pic taken…( no “face” on, looking fat, you name it…) but I realize, my kids love me no matter what, and having a pic with me means more to them than my big butt should mean to me.. :)
