Summer Is About Barbecues and Family Time Spent in the Backyard

After a long winter and an incredibly rainy spring, summer is finally here and that means one thing – it's grilling season! Technically we grill all year round but running outside in boots and coat to flip the burgers before running back inside to warm up doesn't really count as a barbecue. While we grill often it's my dad who reigns Master of the Grill. From salmon to ribs whatever he puts on comes out good enough to induce mouth watering.

In the summer, you will find my parents backyard filled with kids running about or playing in the sprinkler, men standing around the grill, and a competitive game of washers between siblings. Soon delicious smells emanating from the grill waft across the yard  like a dinner bell  and we all begin to congregate around the picnic table. It's in these moments that I realize this is what summer is all about. It's a table laden with summer squash, barbecue ribs, and 3 different salads. Little smiling faces munching on corn of the cob. It's watching cousins growing up as best friends, a little sibling rivalry over backyard games and boisterous laughter floating through the yard. Some of our best family memories and funniest stories have been created during a backyard barbecue.

I think my dad knows to this too. It's why he buys a new grill every year and  keeps them at his home and the family cottage. But I think we all know it too. It's why every fathers day we bring him gifts we have deemed his grill master supplies (like tongs, meat, cheeses, plates, dinnerware etc).  Whether it's for yourself, your dad or your spouse you can pick up all the necessary grill master supplies and AmeriGas at Dollar General this summer. There are over 5,000 Dollar General locations with AmeriGas® propane so you can pick everything up at once and spend more time making family memories.

i never cared for barbeques in the summer – too hot and too many mosquitos and bees. but i loooove a cookout in the fall. it really is fun. sometimes we cook out over a fire pit.
