Mythology on the Big Screen this Summer

The Percy Jackson Sea of Monsters trailer has me excited and I’ll tell you why. Lately I have been thinking a lot about going to back to school. I have taken a few college classes, but never got a degree because I could never quite decide what I wanted to major in. It probably doesn’t help that my interests would not be of any help to me finding a job where I live.

I have considered getting a history major for no other reason than the fact that I love history. Which is totally ironic in its own right because in high school, I detested history. But after taking a few college level history courses, I am totally hooked, and even plan our vacations around historical places that I would like to visit.

I have also always been interested in Marine Biology. Another useless thing for me to major in … there is no marine life anywhere near my home, or even within a reasonable driving distance, but I can’t curb my interest in this topic.

But probably the most useless of all the topics I really enjoy is my {slightly manic} love of mythology and the supernatural. Every once in awhile, I get the urge to look up what courses are available locally on these topics, and I try to fit them into my schedule. When I was younger I would read everything I could get my hands on that had to do with the Olympus Gods, and still can’t help myself when I see a book or movie about them.

So you can imagine how excited I am after seeing the trailer for Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters!

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters continues the epic journey of young demigod (Logan Lerman) as he fulfills his destiny. After finding out in 2010s Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief that he was the son of Poseidon, Percy learns that he must embark on a treacherous adventure to save his world. He travels with his friends into the “Sea of Monsters” – known to humans as the Bermuda Triangle – to find the fabled and powerfully magic Golden Fleece.

With terrifying creatures to battle, an army of zombies and the ultimate Evil this movie looks like it is going to be enjoyed by the whole family.

I am so excited to check it out, and it is definitely one that we will be seeing in theaters (opens August 7, 2013). How about you – are you interested?
