The Odd Life of Timothy Green is Not What You Expect

I sat in a dark theater with 100 other people with no idea what to expect. On the one hand we were about to see a Disney movie, where anything is possible. On the other hand, how were we expected to believe this magical story?! Well, we did.

I’m going to tell you a story. One you probably don’t think you’re going to believe but somewhere along the way, you will get lost in its magic. The Odd Life of Timothy Green begins with a wonderful couple, Cindy and Jim Green (Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton), who can’t wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child would be like. One night, when the skies were dark and their spirits darker, they created their dream child and with a bit of magic he appeared.  When young Timothy (CJ Adams) shows up on their doorstep that night, they receive their greatest gift. Timothy’s appearance in Stanleyville doesn’t just touch the lives of Cindy and Jim but his presence affects nearly every person he meets.

I can honestly say there isn’t one thing I would change about the movie. While there were characters I didn’t like, Cindy’s sister for example, I can’t imagine the story without their presence. They add a dynamic that couldn’t have been achieved without their characters. Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton were phenomenal in their roles. I couldn’t imagine a more deserving couple for the gifts Cindy and Jim received. Lastly, CJ Adams was absolutely adorable. His role was difficult. Timothy was not quite of this world and yet he was. It was the type of role that could have made a movie a complete disaster but he really pulled it off.

The Odd Life of Timothy Green is a film that will move you. It’s about appreciating every moment you have with your loved ones – good or bad. It will make you want to hug your children and call and tell your parents and siblings that you love them. When the credits started rolling I looked around and saw tons of tear filled eyes. We sat there laughing and sniffling together and then we all started talking at once. I heard exclamations like “amazing”, “phenomenal”, “beautiful” and “inspiring”. Timothy teaches us that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life’s greatest gifts. Take the whole family to see The Odd Life of Timothy Green on August 15th. I promise you’re going to leave with warm, fuzzy feelings.

Thank you Disney for allowing me to see an advance screening of this movie for review purposes. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own and no compensation was received.
