Have you been to Miami Beach recently or are you planning a trip? With temperatures averaging 75 degrees year round, its the perfect getaway for a girls weekend, family vacation or even a bachelor/bachelorette party! One of my favorite parts about Miami Beach is that you can walk almost anywhere and everywhere, and was recently named  one of the top cities worldwide for ‘walkability’.

During my last visit, I left my car in the hotel parking lot and walked to the shops, the restaurants and the clubs, without having to hassle with parking or traffic. A few “must do” activities on your list should include: clubbing in South Beach, eating Cuban food, eating fresh seafood like stone crabs if they’re in season, and go shopping on Ocean Drive and Collins Avenue. Of course, also leave time to lounge on the sandy beaches or sip mojitos by the pool. The best mojito I’ve ever had was in Miami Beach, just wish I could remember the name of the bar.

On my last solo vacation, I went to Miami Beach and spent a few days just lounging on the beach or by the pool during the day, and enjoying the nightlife when the sun set. Sadly, at the time I didn’t have a smartphone or a digital camera and so I don’t have any photos, just memories. Maybe it’s a good thing there aren’t any photos of me in a bikini, or dancing in the club, for my kids to find and be embarrassed by when they’re older.

I do wish though, I’d captured the sun setting over the ocean or the crazy waves that were generated by an approaching tropical storm. Besides if I had captured photos of the gorgeous sunset or the manatees I spotted, I could enter to win an awesome prize like a trip to Miami Beach! Good news for anyone that does have photos or will be visiting Miami Beach before the ends of the month, is your fabulous photos can be submitted in the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority photo contest!

The Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority (MBVCA) is interested in seeing what you captured with your camera, by sponsoring a photo contest (3/1/13-3/31/13). They’re looking for creative, dramatic and stunning images of Miami Beach captured with your camera, tablet or smartphone. Awesome photos = awesome prizes:  First place winner receives round trip airfare from any major city in the continental U.S. plus a 4 day/3 night stay at a luxury hotel in Miami Beach; Second place – $1,000 cash; Third place – an Apple iPod Mini.

“We know there are thousands of people who take, and have images of Miami Beach on their cameras, Smartphones and tablets,” says Jeff Lehman, Chair, MBVCA. “Our goal is to have them send us their best shots so we capture those images in one location and share them with the world. As a bonus, three amateur photographers will win three great prizes and bragging rights about their photography skills. Miami Beach is a destination like no other in the world, and there is no better way to show it off than though the eyes the city’s biggest fans.”

After submitting your photos, friends and family have the chance to vote for your entry and the ten (10) photographs with the most “likes” will move on to a final round of judging by the MBVCA Board of Directors. Photos must be uploaded to the MBVCA Facebook page as well as emailed to photocontestmiamibeach@miamibeachvca.com

Oh and by the way, if you’ve never been to Miami Beach, it was recently ranked by Trip Advisor as number one on its Top Winter Sun Vacation Rental Getaway Destinations, and was included on both the Top 25 Beaches in the World and Top 25 Destinations in the U.S. lists.
