My husband and I have noticed lately that much needed lazy Sundays are few and far between these days. Between work, a child, sports, and daily life, it seems like more often our “lazy day of the week” turns into “catch-up day of the week”. So when I do get the chance to take a day of rest, I want to do as little household stuff as possible.

3 Ways to Make Your Day of Rest More Restful

Skip Cooking

One of the best ways I’ve found to carve out more time for the things I want to do is through recipes. This may sound strange, but when you love to cook and can easily spend hours in the kitchen making meals from scratch, the time goes by in a blink of an eye. Because I don’t want to sacrifice quality, I often have to force myself to either do more simple or even better, make ahead.

Bacon Wrapped Egg cups are nothing new but that doesn’t make them any less cool. I love these because not only are they super easy to make, but you can make a bunch for the week because they freeze and reheat very well.

Unplug

Constant connection and being plugged in can be more draining than we realize. It’s like we’re always “on” even on our day of rest. It’s too tempting to get sucked into just one work email, or lose minutes at a time in social media. Unplugging and put away certain electronic devices can be so important. Here are 10 other ways families can disconnect to reconnect this summer.

Go Hands Free

That being said, some technology can make your day of rest more restful. With the Logitech Harmony Elite Remote Control and Amazon Alexa (or Google Home), you can enjoy easy, hands-free control of all the things you love. Seriously, like all the things. You can turn on your TV, change channels or turn up the volume, pull up your Pandora or Spotify playlist, set the mood with your Philips Hue lights, turn up the heat on your Nest Thermostat or even lock your door!

Like say “Sports Night” to turn on ESPN, dim the lights and even crank up the subwoofer. When it’s time to switch gears and have a romantic evening you can easily turn on “Date Night.” Time for bed? Tap “Good Night” to lock the door and turn out the lights.

This gem works with over 270,000 entertainment and smart home devices like Alexa or Google Home, plus your gaming console, your Roku, smart lights, nest thermostat – the options are almost endless.
