5 Ways To Keep Your Feet Healthy and Happy This Summer

Take a peek in my shoe closet and you will find pair after pair of plain, black, flip flops. They’re my shoe of choice and I wear them all year round. Unfortunately, they aren’t the most supportive shoe in the world, even if they are the comfiest. As such, my feet take a beating and my pedicurist reminds me of this just about every time I see her. Now that summer is here, the added sun, sand and heat can quickly leave our feet looking dry and rough. Here is how to keep them looking (and feeling) picture-perfect all season.

5 Ways To Keep Your Feet Healthy This Summer

DIY Citrus Sugar Scrub

Exfoliate At Least Once A Week

This will help get rid of those dry skin cells on the surface and help your moisturizer more effectively do it’s job. Personally, I love this DIY Citrus Sugar Scrub Ashley created. It moisturizers while exfoliating and the sugar is less drying on your skin than salt based scrubs.

Keep a Pumice Stone in Your Shower

Keep your feet in shape and by using a pumice stone once a day or ever other day depending on the health of your feet. Make sure to scrub gently to the soft areas of your feet and use more pressure on callouses.

Do Some Heavy-Duty Moisturizing

My heels and toes tend to be the first part of my feet to dry out. Plus, the heel also has a thicket skin which means it takes more effort to keep them soft. To help, I apply lotion immediately after showering and again right before bed. My pedicurist recommends that I put socks on right after moisturizing, even if it’s only for 30 minutes because it helps my feet retain the moisturizer instead of rubbing off on my blankets or carpet.

Lately, I’ve really taken a liking to doing this while I travel. I used to just grab any old pair of socks, but after being sent some samples of these Oh.So.Soft socks, I always make sure to grab those Gold Toes when opening my sock drawer. Keeping my super soft Gold Toe Oh.So.Soft socks along with a travel size tube of body butter stashed in my backpack has a permanent place on my carryon packing list. I tend to travel to tropical destinations so it’s nice to have something comfortable to slip on for the often cold plane rides that doesn’t take up much room. And on the red-eyes or longer flights, I moisturize, slip on the Gold Toe socks, play my sleepy time music, throw on a sleep mask and relax with a travel pillow. This small luxurious pampering act can do wonders for making a long plane ride more bearable! Add a little champagne and it’s almost like being at the spa. Almost.

Apply Sunscreen

Feet are probably the one area most people forget to apply a good SPF. Not only do your feet need the protection, but the moisture in the SPF is good for your skin and even your nails.

Let Nails Breathe

Last but not least, let your nails breath! Since nails are a living part of your anatomy, they need a break to “breather” from time to time. Even though we all like pretty toe nails, remember to take a break from nail polish a couple of days each month to prevent discoloration and to allow your nails to grow beautifully.

  1. Chlorine seems to work wonders on keeping my feet soft. I’m actually really loving it (if it’s bad for them, I don’t want to know ;) ).

  2. Oh wow! Looks so relaxing and luxurious. I’m taking up running and I’m on my feet a lot. This would be great for them.
