Avoid Smoking

I don’t think I need to list all of the ways smoking is terrible for your body, but causing wrinkles is just one of the many side effects. The chemicals found in cigarette smoke breaks down collagen and elastin, both of which are crucial in keeping your skin young and healthy. 


One of the best ways to combat the formation of deep wrinkles, is to avoid getting them in the first place. The same UV Rays that give us a lovely sun kissed glow are the same damaging UV Rays causing wrinkles. In addition to avoiding the sun (think about getting on board with the floppy hat and oversized sunglasses trend) you should also apply SPF daily.  

Don’t Wash Your Face Too Often

This sounds counterproductive to avoiding wrinkles but it really isnt.  When you wash your face too often it strips your skin of natural oils and moisture, both of which fight wrinkles.

Get Plenty of Sleep

Lack of sleep causes your body to produce cortisol, a hormone that breaks down skin. Conversely, getting plenty of Zzz’s allows your body to produce more HGH (human growth hormone), which helps skin keep its elasticity and thus helps to prevent wrinkles. 

Eat More Fish, Fruits and Veggies

Cold water fish like Salmon provide protein and fatty acids like Omega-3s that are great for your skin. Protein is a building block of great skin and Omega-3 helps nourish skin, keeping it youthful and full which helps reduce wrinkles. Meanwhile, fresh fruits and veggies are full of antioxidants that fight damage caused by free radicals (chemical particles that cause irritation) and protect against damage from the sun and UV rays. 

Sleep on your Back

Take it from the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) sleeping in certain positions lead to “sleep lines — wrinkles that become etched into the surface of the skin and don’t disappear once you’re up. Sleeping on your side increases wrinkles on cheeks and chin, while sleeping face-down gives you a furrowed brow. ” The solution? Sleep on your back!

  1. These are such great tips! I don’t know if I can boost the amount of sleep I get (ha), but I can definitely incorporate some of these other ideas. Wrinkles can stay far, far away from me!
