Gran Canaria, the third largest island in the Canaries just off the coast of Africa, is a spectacular destination that enjoys more or less year-round good weather. This makes it a popular location for those after a bit of winter sunshine. Whether you are looking for a relaxing break or an activity holiday there are plenty of things to do for visitors.

Beaches

Gran Canaria’s landscape owes much to its volcanic prehistory and along its steeply rising shoreline there are a host of stunning beaches. The Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas Beach are among the most popular. Here you will find shifting dunes and palm trees as well as watersports and beach front attractions. It goes without saying that there are lots of places to eat and enjoy a few cocktails.

Aqualand Maspalomas

If you are travelling with children this is a great place to enjoy a day of watersliding and splashing around. On hot days there is no better place to be than this water playground. There are rides to suit very young children as well as adrenaline fuelled flumes for the braver amongst you.

Nublo Hiking

This is a great idea for nature lovers and one of the most interesting things to do on the island. You will see up close the ancient volcanic rock formations that have shaped this unique landscape as well as dramatic views across the island. The starting point for hikes is Degollads de la Goleta which is easy to reach by a bus or a hired car.

Sioux City

Sioux City is a western style theme park near San Agustin that is often said to be one of the best theme parks in Spain. Everything in this cactus filled spot the is an exact replica of the American Wild West. There are exciting shows with cowboys. Their brawls and duels will put a smile on your kids’ faces. A bit bizarre but definitely worth a visit!

Starting to dream of Gran Canaria yet? There are loads of brilliant things to do on this sunny island so if you are thinking of last minute holidays give it a whirl. You won’t be disappointed.
