The Sundance Film Festival, the largest independent film festival in the United States, sees hundreds of films each year. This year the festival served as the debut for Sing Street, a feel-good coming of age story centered around a 14-year-old boy named Conor (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) growing up in 1980s Dublin. In the midst of adjusting to a new inner-city public school where the kids are rough and the teachers are rougher. He meets THE girl. You know the one. Mysterious, aloof and uber-cool Raphina (Lucy Boynton). With the aim of winning her heart, he invites her to star in his band’s music videos.
She agrees, and now Conor must deliver what he’s promised – calling himself “Cosmo.” The catch? He’s not part of a band… yet. So he does what any ‘sane’ 14-year-old would do. He immerses himself in the vibrant rock music trends of the decade, he forms a band with a few lads, and the group pours their heart into writing lyrics and shooting videos.
