Dove Chocolate

The holidays are a busy time for everyone and I admit that today the craziness of it all got to me. I woke up late and had a million and one things to do before noon. Then it was going to be a 3 hour car ride across the state to have christmas with our in-laws. I made the cardinal mistake of skipping breakfast and then missing lunch. By 1pm we hadn’t made it out of the house and I could feel myself slipping.

Trail Mix 2My sugar had dropped, I was shaky and faint. It’s about this time the big, green icky monster mom usually appears. I was short tempered and getting no where fast. Thankfully, after five years of marriage my husband is well versed in the taming of the shrew and (gently) threatened to force feed me if necessary. After I had ate and rational thought returned I realized how much I needed to keep snacks on hand this time of year. One of our car trip favorites is home made trail mix. It’s perfect to mix up and keep around wherever we may be.  

Trail Mix

6 Delicious Homemade Trail Mix Recipes

Traditional Trail Mix:

  • Dove Whole Blueberries
  • Raisins
  • Peanuts
  • Pretzels
  • Almonds
  • Candies

Festive Mix:

  • Dried Apples
  • Sweet Granola Cluster
  • Pumpkin Seeds
  • Dove Whole Cranberries 
  • Pecans or Almonds
  • A Sprinkle of Cinnamon

Peanut Butter Lover: 

  • Peanut Butter Chips
  • Dehydrated Banana chips
  • Peanuts
  • Dove Whole Cherries

Dry Breakfast:

  • Bran flakes
  • Shredded wheat cereal
  • Puffed rice
  • Granola
  • Cashews
  • 1 Part Divided Equally Between Dove cherries, cranberries, and blueberries.

  • Pistachios
  • Dove Blueberries
  • Flax seeds

If you’re like me and lack the taste buds for dried fruit, I highly recommend swapping them out for Dove Whole Fruits dipped in Cream Dove Dark Chocolate – like I did in these recipes. They come in three varieties of real, whole fruit: cranberry, cherry and blueberry. It also cuts down on the ingredients since most trail mix recipes call for chocolate as well.
