Shopping for a Car Doesn’t Have to be a Drag

A friend of mine hosts a holiday party every year for a group of moms where we decorate gingerbread houses, drink wine, and enjoy a kid free night. This year, I managed to get my car stuck in her snowy driveway, ultimately ruining the evening. I live in northern Michigan where the winters are brutal and driveways are treacherous – which is not ideal for my front wheel drive, four-door sedan.

Thing is, the car is paid off so without a car payment, I have been enjoying some extra monthly spending cash, but have also largely been denying the fact that I need a new vehicle…ASAP. With two kids and a lot of snowy, icy weather for a large part of the year, I need something reliable, roomy, and with four wheel drive.

I’m not sure I know a single person that has ever enjoyed their car shopping/buying experience. With two kids and a full time job, I have little to zero time to research cars that will fit my needs and not a whole lot of vehicle knowledge. All of this has led me to put it off as long as I possibly can, but after recently having my sad, worn out car pushed out of snowbank, I am willing to admit I need an upgrade.

Kelley Blue Book has always been a reliable source for anyone on the prowl for a new vehicle – whether they are a novice or a know-it-all. Their yearly Best Buy Awards are created by experts that spend the year evaluating every new vehicle then test driving them before each is broken down and analyzed to the nth degree. All of this information is then presented in easy to read and understand categories to allow shoppers to find vehicles that meet their needs. The research covers everything from customer reviews, insurance, maintenance, and depreciation – leaving no stone unturned.

Upon scouring the list, I think I found a car totally worth jumping back into a monthly payment for…The 2019 Honda CR-V. Kelley Blue Book has been doing the Best Buy Awards for five years, and four years in row, Honda’s compact crossover has won the title four times. According to Kelley, the CR-V excelled in every category and managed to beat out long-time rival Toyota RAV4. It has great safety features, fuel efficiency, reliability, and tech features. It hits every mark on my check list, and it is available in all wheel drive (and even turbocharged!). The rear seats fold flat creating 75.8 cubic feet of space that which makes the CR-V top of its class in space.

So instead of searching all day for something to meet my needs and wasting days test driving cars, I spent a half hour searching through the Kelley Blue Book Best Buys to find a car that meets all my needs. When I’m ready, I can find CR-Vs on sale near me, and start planning my next move. My life just got a whole lot easier.
