Football season is here and football fans everywhere are preparing for tailgating season with 16 teams playing a combined 256 games over the course of a 17 week period. That’s a lot of tailgating ya’ll! If anything can be said about Michiganders it’s that we have never given up on our team. We haven’t had a winning in over a decade since 2000 when Bobby Ross was head coach (Gary Moeller took over midseason). Even then we just barely squeaked by with a .563 percentage, but that doesn’t keep us from starting each season hopeful or from showing up ready to tailgate like winners.

5 Tips for Easier Tailgating

Chill Everything!

Placing room temperature ingredients and condiments in your cooler with ice is counter intuitive. Instead, chill everything before it goes in the cooler!

Pre-Package Your Meats

Place kabobs on the skewers the night before. Or if you’re having burgers patty them up and wrap them in cling wrap or wax paper.

Use a Cardboard Box For Trash

Line a cardboard box with a trash bag and keep it on hand for easily bagging up trash. Decorate it in your rival teams colors and your tailgaters will know exactly what it’s for.

A Toolbox is Perfect for Organizing

Keep your grilling accessories like spatulas, tongs and basting brushes in the main compartment of the toolbox. Store accessories like condiments, baggies and toothpicks in the drawers below.

Have a Game Plan For Good Food

Unfortunately, even the most diehard tailgaters are sometimes caught by inclement weather. It’s not uncommon for games around these parts to feature temperatures blow freezing and a flurry of snow. There is no shame in tapping out to cuddle around the TV instead. It also lets you get a but more creative with your tailgating food, like this Touchdown Taco Sliders…
