Current obsession – metal stamping. It’s a fantastic way to personalize jewelry and gifts, as well as add farmhouse or rustic touches around your home. One of my favorite ways to metal stamp is to create cute garden markers.

This DIY plant marker tutorial is a very quick way to add personality and some extra love to a hostess gift, housewarming plant, or pre-purchased Mother’s Day flowers. Metal plant markers would also be perfect for those of you planning a rustic or outdoors wedding. These plant labels could be used to make a beautiful rustic wedding table number or even a thoughtful wedding favor your guests can take home to enjoy.

Supplies Needed for DIY Plant Marker

Copper plant labels
Letter and number stamp set (NOTE: this is the exact one I have, but I would recommend the next larger size)
Black Sharpie Extreme pen
hand sanitizer/rubbing alcohol
soft surface, such as a towel, to press the letters into

You’ll want to plan ahead of time what you would like your markers to say so you can manage the space and letter sizing. Since the letters in the set I have are smaller, I was able to write more so I added “MY THYME & LOVE” to this lovely little marker. I am definitely going to be purchasing the larger letter and number stamp set though for future projects.

Carefully unfold the copper sheet from around the metal stake then gently lay it flat.
Making sure the letters are facing the correct direction (and not upside down), use firm and confident pressure to imprint the letters one at a time. You’ll have one chance of being able to press down per letter so you’ll want to make sure you have it right.

Don’t worry if they aren’t perfectly straight, that adds to the sweetness.

After the message is pressed, use a fine point sharpie to go over the imprinted letters, any that goes outside of the lines you will simply wipe away with a little piece of paper towel and the alcohol. The only ink that remains should be what is in the deepest part of each letter.

When your marker is set, you may carefully wrap it back around the silver stake and you’re all done! Easy peasy!
