Cherry Tree Inn and Suites

Living in central Michigan means that unless I’m crossing the Mighty Mac, I’m just a few hours from anywhere and I can leave early morning and be back by late night. I didn’t realize how convenient that was until we were planning our Traverse City Staycation and realized it would be the very first time in my adult life that I would be staying at a hotel in my home state.

I know! I was just as bewildered as you are.

But it made our stay at the Cherry Tree Inn and Suites that much more special. After a 2.5 hour drive we arrived at the Cherry Tree just in time for our 3 PM check in with one very anxious toddler. While we took care of the short check in process, she was offered a cookie by the friendly staff. Then we were off to find our room, one clueless but confident toddler leading the way.

To describe our room in a few words it would be comfortable and spacious. At over 900 square feet it was only 400sq ft less than our house! The king size bed was heavenly, and completely crumpled long before bedtime thanks to one little monkey jumping on the bed.

As parents we loved that the french doors separating our room from the main living area (which housed a sofa sleeper) would allow some privacy. The main living area boasted a 55inch TV, a sofa sleeper, a kitchenette (perfect for late night snacks!), a PS2. We spent the majority of our time making memories with family activities like board games.

But my husband did take advantage of the WiFi and Large screen TV while us girls took advantage *our* favorite feature – the 2 person jacuzzi.

The entire suit was homey and comfortable but the 400 feet of private patio with amazing views of Lake Michigan were gorgeous. In fact, I think my husband spent more time on the patio taking in the views than sitting inside the room.

The Cherry Tree Inn and Suites was loaded with other amenities as well including a pool, sauna and jaccuzzi, a gorgeous library, multiple sitting areas inside and out and guest are also treated to free continental breakfast each day. While the hotel does have a slightly outdated feel in some areas, the comfortable, relaxing atmosphere, gorgeous views and sweet Michigan hospitality more than made up the difference.

  1. That is an awesome looking bubble bath! My kids would LOVE that. It looks like a great way to spend a weekend.
