Saturday, February 8th was the opening day of the Chicago Auto Show and already over 200,000 tickets had been sold. After spending two days wandering the show room floor and watching the best brands make their yearly debuts I could see just why the show is so popular for families. But I noticed some of the most popular cars were not the much anticipated debuts.

Instead they were the fun concept cars, special edition vehicles tricked out with fun paint jobs or simply cars that told a story – and lets not forget cars that made us ooh and ahh over their price tags. For me, this is what I imagined junior car aficionados dream about. So I have put together a ‘map’ of sorts, listing all of the fun vehicles on display, to help families attending the 2014 Chicago Auto Show.

Families can visit the Chicago Auto Show through Monday, Feb. 17 at McCormick Place. Ticket are $12 for adults, $6 for seniors and children ages 7 – 12, and Free for children age 0 – 6.

Weekday discount vouchers ($6 off regular adult admission) available at area new-car dealers and participating banks.

Family Guide to the Chicago Auto Show:
Concept Cars, Tricked Out Rides and Cars to Make You Oooh

Nissan:

The Muppets Highlander

2015 Chicago Auto Show 5 Nissan tricked out the 2014 Highlander with some of our favorite muppets characters.

Q: How many Muppets can fit in 2014 Highlander?
A: Muppet you should find out yourself at the auto show!
(Disclaimer: That was the first, last and only corny joke – I promise. Puns are still fair game though)

Toyota:

i-Road

2015 Chicago Auto Show 4

Calling the i-Road a car seems like a bit of a stretch at first. But believe it or not it really is. Topping out at 28mph and seating just a single person  this 3 wheeled electric vehicle is a site to be hold.

SHEDD Aquarium Prius V

Chicago Auto Show 8

Toyota is the Official Hybrid Vehicle of the Shedd Aquarium since 2008. Each year they donate a hybrid vehicle to the education department for transporting specimens and education materials.

Ford:

1965 Mustang

2015 Chicago Auto Show
It’s the Mustangs 50th anniversary this year and Ford celebrated with the lunch of the newly designed 2015 Mustang. But what caught my eye was this gorgeous 1965 Mustang.

Hyundai

Zombie Apocalypse

2015 Chicago Auto Show 1

Could you survive a Zombie Apocalypse? I bet I could with one of these lean, mean zombie obliterating machines from Hyundai.

Chevrolet:

Silverado Z71 Volunteer Firefighter Concept

2015 Chicago Auto Show 7

Chevrolet honors volunteer firefights with a custom, double cab Silverado Z71. The truck comes with custom lighting, a sire and chrome fire extinguisher. It also has firefighter gear in the cabin.

Fun Fact: The silver is actually custom silver Liquid Metal paint.

Mazda: Indy Car

2015 Chicago Auto Show 3

How awesome does the Mazda IndyCar look? Every Jr racers dream!

Lamborghini:

Aventador

2015 Chicago Auto Show 2

The Aventador has major wow factor. It’s doors draw immediate attention to the car but it’s the display sign that will have guest doing double takes. The Lamborghini Aventador sells for a cool $426, 135. But that’s the price you pay for a car that does 0-60 in 2.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 217 MPH.

In addition to these amazing cars you can also see the latest and greatest from all your favorite brands. PLUS, I have kept a few surprises in store for you.

Don’t forget to vote Best of Show at the show, via SMS text, and online from February 8th – 17th.

  1. Okay, that iRoad is just – strange looking! My husband and I went to an auto show like this in Atlanta last year. I’m not that into cars but he loved it…and I have to admit that it was pretty fun to see all the different makes and models in one room.
