Montreal, Canada

If your dreams are whisking you away to Paris but your budget is keeping your grounded, visit the French-Canadian city of Montreal instead! It’s cobble stone streets and french inspired architecture while charm you while it’s family friendly activities will offer more than enough to occupy your time. The city boast numerous outdoor ice skating rinks and of course you can’t miss the Santa Clause parade happening on Ste. Catherine Street. There is shopping to be done at the Montreal Christmas Markets and each Saturday in December there is a fireworks show at the Old Port.

Frankenmuth, Michigan

This cozy town in Michigan is a spitting image of Bavaria in the mitten State. It features German and Bavarian-themed homes, shops, restaurants and hotels. What they are known for, besides their adorably themed village, is Bronners Christmas Wonderland. The World’s Largest Christmas Store, Bronners was founded in 1945 and is visited annually by over two million people every year.

Park City, Utah

One of the few places you might be guaranteed to have a white Christmas, Park City sees up to 40 inches of snowfall every holiday season! The town features three resorts for you to ski, snowboard and frolic about in the snow to your hearts content. But Park City also offers more than 100 unique shops down the length of main street which is decked out in christmas lights.

Chicago, Illinois

Chicago is a top destination for families year round but it each winter it takes on the beautiful glow of holiday lights and becomes a winter wonderland. Millions of holiday lights are strung along the Magnificent Mile where you can complete just about all of your holiday shopping. Just about anything else you heart desires can be found at the Christkindmarket, an outdoor German Crafts Market. Last but not least, the Navy Pier’s Winter WonderFest can’t be missed when their amusement park is decked out for the holidays and includes an indoor skating rink.

Lincoln, New Hampshire

If your kids have ever dreams of riding the Polar Express you can bring the story to life for them at this New Hampshire town. The local train station allows kids and parents to climb aboard the Polar Express for a two-hour ride and at the end of their journey they will be greeted by Santa with a reading of “The Polar Express.”

  1. I live in IN and we are probably not going to have a white Christmas this year. Today was almost jacket weather! I think MI and IL were about the same. Maybe we’ll have a white one next year.
