Life Lessons Learned From Classic Disney Songs

Even if you don’t think you’re really a “music” person, it probably has more of an influence on you than you think. For instance, one of the first things most people do when we get in the car is up the tunage. Songs will come on that make us change the station, others make you want to crank it up and belt it out. From ABC’s and 123’s to such complicated subjects as emotions, music can also teach. This is great if you’re a toddler, but if you’re a parent you might be resenting the fact that your radio has been taken over. If I have to listen to Wheels on the Bus one more time, I’ll pull my hair out!

Thankfully, my daughter LOVES the Disney station on Pandora radio and with Disney songs being recorded by stars like Christina Aguilera, Phil Collins, and Vanessa Williams, I often find myself singing along. But really, what’s not to love? Essentially the majority of Disney songs are about love, friendship and courage. Which brings me to the these life lessons learned from Disney songs. I think the lyrics speak for themselves.

The Lion King

The Circle of Life
The Circle of Life, Lion King

From the day we arrive on the planet
And blinking, step into the sun
There’s more to see than can ever be seen
More to do than can ever be done
There’s far too much to take in here
More to find than can ever be found
But the sun rolling high
Through the sapphire sky
Keeps great and small on the endless round

It’s the Circle of Life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the Circle
The Circle of Life

Toy Story 3

Friendship
We Belong Together, Toy Story 3

Talk about friendship, and loyal things.
Talk about how much you mean to me.
And I’ll promise, to always be by your side,
Whenever you need me.

The day I met you,
Was the luckiest day of my life.
And I bet you feel the same.
At least I hope you do.
So don’t forget,
If the future should take you away,
That you’ll aways be part of me.

Mulan

Self Worth
Reflection, Mulan

I am now
In a world where I
Have to hide my heart
And what I believe in
But somehow
I will show the world
What’s inside my heart
And be loved for who I am

Who is that girl I see
Staring straight back at me?
Why is my reflection
Someone I don’t know?
Must I pretend that I’m
Someone else for all time?
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?

  1. My favorite song is Under the Sea from The Little Mermaid. It’s such a catchy & uplifting tune. All of the Classics seem like they’d make for some god listening but I think the Modern Classics might become my favorite.
