DIY Citrus Sugar Scrub 3

It’s difficult to maintain friendships when one of your best friends lives 700 miles away from you. Even in today’s digital age, no matter how “close” you feel, it can be hard to stay connected. We both live busy lives with work, family and all the extras that life brings, but it’s especially hard when said friend is going through a rough time. It feels like all the emails, messages and texts in the world can never bring me close enough to comfort and support her. I’ve always been a firm believer in sending snail mail. I think it touches people in a way that digital words never could. Plus, I could have never described our friendship as perfectly as the Life is Good Greeting Card I found at my local Hallmark Store.

“A real friend knows when to listen,
when to stop listening,
when to talk,
when to stop talking,
when to pour wine,
when to stop pouring
and just hand over the bottle.”

I wanted to send a little something more so, knowing her love for all natural beauty products, I created this DIY Citrus Sugar Scrub to surprise her along with the card!

DIY Citrus Sugar Scrub

16oz Mason Jar
Spray Paint
Jute
ZINK hAppy + 1in Z Roll
2 1/2 Cups sugar
1/2 Cup Coconut Oil
2 Tbsp Lemon Juice (half a lemon)
1 Tsp Orange Zest

I began by spray painting the lid and ring to the mason jar. (I’m glad I started with this step because it ended up needing a second coat so this saved some time.) While the first coat was drying, I began assembling the sugar scrub. First mix the coconut oil and sugar together in a large bowl until well blended. It should be very grainy. If there is too much oil, you will need to add more sugar. Once it’s blended, pour into the mason jar. Add the Lemon juice over the scrub and topping it off with Orange Zest.

By now, the first coat of spray paint was dry and I added my final coat. While that was drying, I got crafty with my ZINK hAppy by creating a cute label for the jar. Once the spray paint was dry, I put the lid on my sugar scrub and finished it off with a string of jute.

The card is precious and I loved the Citrus Scrub so much I had to make myself some as well. My friend loved it too and the pampering kit was just the pick me up she needed.

  1. I am making gifts for my daughters baby shower, this would be perfect in smaller mason jars. We were thinking body and lip scrubs, very unique with the citrus.
