When you grow up with a Korean mother and spend the majority of your life in Southern California, you’re pretty much hardwired to have an affinity for all types Asian food – especially sushi and seafood. It also makes you somewhat of a seafood snob, especially when you’re dealing with raw or seared fish. You know where the best restaurants are and you can bet that your fridge is stocked with the supplies necessary to whip it up anytime your 6 year old request sushi rolls for lunch or dinner, or lunch and dinner.

The only trouble is, keeping fresh fish on hand can be costly if you don’t get the chance to eat it before it expires. With our travel lifestyle, the odds of that happening are greater than one would like. Which is why our interest was more than piqued when we heard about Bumble Bee SuperFresh®, their line of  naturally-seasoned, restaurant quality, “fish-forward” prepared seafood solutions for the home.

Their entire line of seafood is no mess and no fuss, perfect for busy nights. The Salmon and Tilapia varieties even come with their own parchment paper baking pouch to go from freezer to table in under 25 minutes. But it was the Ahi Tuna that inspired me to whip up a new twist on an old favorite in the kitchen.

bumble bee boxBumble Bee SuperFresh® Seared Ahi Tuna is sushi grade Ahi that’s ready to simply “thaw and serve”, so you can use it in a Sushi Recipe, with a side of soy sauce and wasabi, or in a classic Nicoise Salad. I decided to give it a whirl as the easiest to prepare Seared Ahi Tuna appetizer ever.

*note: While the prep time on this take less than 5 minutes, you do have to pre-thaw in the refrigerator 3 hours in advance.

Once thawed, simply plate and drizzle with your favorite Ginger Sesame Dressing. Top with fresh chopped chives and serve! It’s seriously that easy and people will totally be impressed with your perfect searing skills. Don’t worry, I won’t tell them our secret.

One of the things we noticed right away was that the Ahi Tuna doesn’t have a particularly fishy smell, which is absolutely the way it should be but is unfortunately all too common. Apparently, it has to do with the way it’s frozen. The tuna is frozen during processing and never fully defrosted or re-frozen during preparation, and because you prepare Bumble Bee SuperFresh® straight from the freezer, there isn’t any smell associated with thawing fish.

I dare you to try it for yourself and use this popular favorite for any upcoming holiday parties! Don’t forget to grab a coupon at the Bumble Bee SuperFresh® website.
