Reading is the foundation of successful children. This means not just casual reading but continual growth through increased reading comprehension. A child’s reading skills affect performance in all other subjects, as well as progress through adulthood. Consider some of these facts from the Literacy Project Foundation:

  • In the course of one year, 6 out of 10 homes in our nation do not buy one single book
  • Difficulty reading is the main reason for almost half of the Americans that earn an income below the poverty line
  • An estimated 44 million adults in the U.S. cannot read a basic story to their child
  • School dropouts cost our nation $240 billion in social services and lost tax revenues

Be part of the solution to this problem…Inspire your children to read. Encourage them to read often, give them new and challenging material, and start right now.

  2. In this day and age, not being able to read makes life so much harder. I love that National Geographic is making these books available to kids.
