Summer vacation is sneaking up on us quickly. What do your kids normally do during their break? It is important to keep kids learning, and their minds active – even during the summer months. We love anything having to do with National Geographic. My son has developed a healthy obsession with animals (which drove him to learn to read at only 4 years old) thanks to Nat Geo Kids titles. I love that they strive to produce content that is fresh, exciting, and always informational.

Just released is the National Geographic Kids Almanac 2020 – a special 10th anniversary edition of the New York Times best-selling almanac. With over 300 pages filled with information, games, quizzes, photos, crafts, and so much more, this is a great way to keep kids aged 8 to 12 engaged and interested during the summer, on road trips, on weekends…really any time!

This new edition of the world’s best selling almanac has new content including interviews with National Geographic explorers such as geologist and climate scientist Christine Chen and aquatic ecosystem ecologist Katey Walter Anthony. It covers a wide variety of wildlife, science, nature, conservation and a variety of topics from around the world. There are resources as well as homework help, even maps of every country, and a glimpse at what was happening in the world a decade ago when the very first edition was released.

To get readers moving and taking action, there is a whole new challenge for kids that will inspire them to start helping the planet. The 20/20 Visionary Challenge asks kids to imagine the world in 10 years and think about a positive change they would like to see. It can be anything from exploration, change or even a new invention, and in whatever area interests them. The best ideas submitted will be featured in the 2021 Almanac.
