There are over 150 people in my family going back only three generations. Unlike many families, we actually get together on a regular basis. More than that, my first cousins and I were raised like siblings with sleep overs and escaping to our grandparents a part of the normal routine. Then I met my husband, and I learned that best friends can also be like siblings. Not only did they have keys to each others homes, but it was not uncommon for the family to arrive home to find someone already there.  They were so integrated into each others lives it was like watching siblings and it reminded me of my cousins.

All of these people, these “family” members were standing with us on our wedding day. They were at the hospital for the birth of our daughter. These people are not all blood, but they are still our family.

The family of today is an ever changing picture.  According to the 2010 U.S. Census, 60 percent of total U.S. households are made up of fewer than three people and are growing more quickly than larger households. Married couples without children have grown 11 percent since 2000, and make up more than 40 percent of family households (2010 U.S. Census).

Sprint recognizes that family can mean something broader – including both traditional families but also extending into a group a friends or community. Thus they created Sprint Framily Plans. It’s unlike anything I have seen a cellular company do before.  Sprint Framily Plans offer a pricing program that lets US decide who we consider family.

How it works:

For one line of service, new Sprint customers pay $55 per month per line for unlimited talk, text and 1GB of data. Build a group of at least seven people and everyone gets unlimited talk, text and 1GB of data for $25 per month per line. Plus, for only $20 per month per line, group members can buy up to unlimited data and get a new phone every year.  Each member of the group can customize their plan to meet their unique needs and each account is billed separately.

Now your cousins, friends, book club members, and your Weekly Wine Sisters and anyone else in your extended community can all be a part of your “framily.” From April 4 through May 8, new customers who bring their number to Sprint and sign up for a Sprint Framily Plan can receive up to $300 in credit for their current phone and a Visa® Prepaid Card worth up to $350 to cover switching fees!

The announcement of the Sprint Framily Plan makes me all the more excited to share that Surf and Sunshine is a Sprint  Ambassador! Over the course of the next year, we will be sharing our experiences testing various  devices and service options and sharing the results. To celebrate, I am delighted to be hosting a giveaway for one lucky reader to win the HTC One Max Smartphone.
