Parents Recount Hospital Visits They’ll Never Forget

[dropcap]W[/dropcap]e once took our child to the doctor because they woke up with dry skin all in their hair. We were thinking something major was wrong just to find out babies get something called cradle cap all the time. – Stephanie M.

Took my 3 yr old to the ER a few days ago for a lingering viral infection to make sure it hadn’t turned into pneumonia. She proudly informed the nurse that she pees her pants every day. Absolutely not true by any means. – Heather B.

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]y son had been limping around the soccer field for a solid week and I had been telling the other parents he just had a sore foot. It turns out he actually had a broken toe. Another time, a friend came up to him after school and playfully whacked him on the chest. Turns out his hand was in his front pocket just right and it completely shattered the right side of his hand. He had to have surgery to repair it. – Aebok M.

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]y aunt used to babysit my sister and I when we were little. I had an obsession with eyeballs and she had googley eyes on the end table. I wanted to take one home, but didn’t have pockets so I stuck it up my nose. I had to be taken to the ER for same day surgery to get it out. They didn’t even charge us because they were laughing so hard – it made their day! – Haley P.

My son fell on a marble when he was 2 and broke his foot. He told the doctors I ran over him with my car because I wanted his gummies. – Aimee B.

[dropcap]W[/dropcap]hen I worked in a pediatric office we had a kid come in because his breath was horrible. The reason? He had stuck chewed gum up his nose and it had been in there so long, it was into his sinus. The smell was awful. – Tina W.

[dropcap]O[/dropcap]nce my daughter suffered a horse kick to her arm pit. She had her arm held above her head the entire way to the hospital and through x-ray, convinced she couldn’t move it. When we received the x-ray back and confirmed it wasn’t broken she miraculously was able to lower it. – Tammy D.

[dropcap]W[/dropcap]hen my son was about 3 months old, he began having possible RSV symptoms and since he was in the NICU for his lungs at birth – I was panicked. While waiting in the pediatric ER, my husband begins pacing. I think it is because he is nervous about our son, but after a while he confesses, “I am going to go admit myself next door (at the ER); I think I have kidney stones coming”. So our son was given a room at the pediatric ER and my husband was two halls over in the regular ER. We can laugh about it now, but I didn’t know what to do then! – Ashleigh P.

A good doctor is worth their weight in gold. Whether you’re a first-time mom freaking out over a simple case of cradle cap or just looking to find a good family practice, it’s important to have an office in your neighborhood that cares about your family. Providence Playa Vista is a new office on Jefferson Boulevard in the heart of Playa Vista, offering care for all your life stages – from Pediatrics to adult primary care and even specialty care coming this fall. Only 7 miles away from their sister facility, Saint John’s Medical Center, Providence Playa vista also accepts the majority of major insurance plans.

Los Angeles traffic is already hard to bear, but can be downright scary if you’re a parent trying to get your child medical attention. If you’re looking for a new provider or just wanting something closer to home, the Providence Playa Vista Grand Opening event is this week, on August 17th from 4-7pm. There will be food, a free valet and a variety of family activities like:

  • LA Lifeguards Teaching Sidewalk CPR
  • Kids Art Crafts (that will be permanently displayed throughout the office!)
  • A Food Craft for Kids
  • Greenscreen Photo booth
  • DJ and Music
  • Guided Tours of the New Facility

Stop by and say hi – maybe you’ll find a new medical professional to add to your family!

  1. This was a very entertaining read today. I just have to share mine. My son, who was then 2 and a half years old was taken to the hospital because of diarrhea and vomiting. They had to take a blood sample so I was holding him while the medical technologist was getting ready to prick his finger to draw some blood. Apparently, he was new on the job and did not want to hurt my son so he was not using the lancet deep enough to draw blood. After 2 attempts, I told him, “Please do it right this time. You are already hurting my boy.” And then I told my son, “Go ahead and scream if you like. This is the last attempt.” My son did scream and I wanted to sink into the chair our of embarrassment. My son, in the loudest voice that could come out that toddler body, screamed, “Do it right, you asshole!”
