What happens when you put two long time, adventurous friends on top of a mountain with a desire for something delicious but faced with the same old, uninteresting energy snacks everyone has been eating for years? The birth of a #SnackBetter initiative that would become a game changer for food loving outdoor enthusiasts and adventurous snackers alike – Sahale Snacks.
We went back to our kitchens the very next day and created unique combinations of premium nuts, dried fruits, and exotic spices, each reflecting a beautiful location, culture or culinary tradition somewhere in the world.
We use whole ingredients in their natural form — such as cashews, almonds, pecans, and pistachios — and combine them with naturally dried and preservative-free (unsulphured) fruits, then add fabulous ingredients like honey, lemongrass, balsamic vinegar, or pure ground Madagascar vanilla beans.
As a Sahale Ambassador, I was invited to the headquarters and factory to learn more about the brand and creation process. I found Edmund, one of the founders of Sahale Snacks, to be as passionate about eating well as he is about living life to the fullest. Makes sense to me – after all, most of us adventure seekers are well versed in trying new things and immersing ourselves in culture and experience. With the notion that food should always taste good, the first two mixes he and Josh developed in 2003 are a delightful mix of exotic flavors and playful kick with ingredients that each have a story, giving rise to Beyond OrdinaryTM snacking. Bold in flavor combinations, these are actually two of my favorite!
Valdosta Pecans Glazed Mix – Consisting of just the right blend of pecans, cranberries, black pepper and orange zest, the flavor profile starts out with mild sweetness, then tart berry, creamy nut and a kick of pepper at the end.
Balsamic Almonds Glazed Mix (formerly known as Soledad Almonds) – Inspired by the flavors of the Mediterranean with whole almonds and pomegranate infused apples covered in a balsamic vinegar glaze with a touch of cayenne pepper. Wow – talk about a burst of flavor!
Feel free to lick your screen. It’s ok.
As a special treat, we were even given the opportunity to create our very own snack mix from scratch in the same development kitchen that Sahale uses when creating new mixes! Partnered with my friend Angela of About a Mom, we brainstormed some flavor profiles and may have strong armed her into trying my idea of a Spicy Korean BBQ inspired snack mix. Lucky for me, Angela is easy going and let me run with it, and thus, Seoul Spicy (see what I did there?) was born. In just about a week or so, our creation was delivered to our homes along with the other two teams’ mixes and I have to admit, they ALL tasted great. Maybe we can talk Sahale into mass producing ours as special limited editions? (hint. hint)
With no cholesterol, gluten, trans fat, GMOs, or any artificial flavors or colors, Sahale stands by its Snack Better Promise and now provides what can only be described as a variety of “flavor encapsulated” snacks. With things like multi-layered bars and REAL (not compound) chocolate, Sahale snacks take break time or re-energizing after a long hike to the next level.
I really am truly honored to be partnering with such a great company. I can’t wait to share more of my Sahale adventures with you, including my very own Sahale inspired recipes!
It sounds like a great company… I love what they stand for and believe in. Snacks that our whole family would love.
These sound like awesome mixes to snack on. It’s so cool that you had the opportunity to make your own!
These snack mixes sound super unique and absolutely delish! I really dig all of the spices involved and nothing beats non GMO for me.
That looks delicious. I’d much rather snack on something decent for me than a candy bar.
Those sound like snacks I wold loe. I MUST check these out.
