Give Back to Your Community with Verizon FiOS

Did you know…?

[infobox]This year approximately 1.6 million children will experience homelessness.[/infobox]

[infobox]84% of families that face homelessness are female-headed and over 92% of homeless mothers have suffered severe physical and/or sexual abuse in their lifetime.[/infobox]

These heartbreaking statistics prove that there are families all around us that need our help and support. It is crucial that we give back to our communities and what better way than by providing support to the families in need. When we give women and children the help they so need, we are also giving them hope.

Instead of surviving in a world of limited possibilities, we are showing these women and children that their community cares for them. We will carry them when they are too exhausted. We will care for them when they cannot. We will give them the chance to get back on their feet.

Now thru May 3rd, Verizon FiOS is offering residents of Southern California the chance to win $1,000 for their favorite charity. Verizon FiOS is the fiber-optic communications network that provides bundled internet, television, and telephone services, and now it is connecting with the communities it services while offering help for those in need.

My charity of choice if the Los Angeles House of Ruth. They provide temporary and transitional housing to battered women and their children. In the winter I crochet scarves to donate and try to include my son in the process as much as possible.

By showing people, especially children, the importance of charity we are creating a cycle of kindness. You get what you give. Spread love and joy across your city.

Give back to your community by entering this sweepstakes. With this simple gesture you could help touch many lives right in your own neighborhood.

  1. I do a lot of giving back between monetary donations, animal rescue, helping the homeless and helping individuals in my community. I hope Verizon will consider doing this for each of the states!

  2. I love Verizon Fios- I can’t wait for it to get to my area. We’re told soon so will be waiting patiently

  3. It’s always good to hear about companies that give back to their communities. Thanks for sharing!

  4. Those numbers are a terrible reality. As one who had to live in a women’s shelter with my mom and siblings when I was little, this is a cause that I can support. Thanks for giving back, Verizon!

  5. We are happy Verizon customers and have been anxiously waiting for FIOS to arrive in our city. Hopefully they get here soon but it is wonderful to see them giving back!

  6. Verizon is such a great company. They give back to so many communities. It’s great to see how much they get involved.

  7. I think this is so great. It’s really important to teach kids the value of giving back, and this is a great way to do it.

  8. I wonder why they are only doing this in a couple of counties in Southern California. I wonder what else they do–what charities they corporately sponsor and for how much–they are all over the country!

  9. Wonderful way to give back to the community. Love the idea of getting kids involved. Such an important lesson to teach. I bet your scarves are so appreciated :)
