Screen Shot 2014-09-01 at 2.49.40 PMToday is Labor Day and technically the end of summer. This usually marks the point in fitness resolutions where you may get the urge to start slacking. The holidays and travel are fast approaching which means you can almost count on packing on at least 10 lbs by the end of the year, right? If anything, THIS should be the exact reason why you need to make sure you keep up with your fitness routines. It’s much easier to simply “maintain” than it is to have to start from ground zero all over again. So instead of “skipping” workouts, become determined to make your routine work anywhere you are. With the new water and dust resistant Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport, it’s easy to go from home, to gym, to pool, to beach – all without worry.

All Around App

The S Health app that come preloaded on my Samsung Galaxy S5 is an awesome all around fitness app. To begin with, it takes information like your name, age, current weight and target weight. Afterwards it computes a target calorie intake and calories burned through exercise. From there it’s just a matter of making the app work for you!

S HealthWalking Mate acts as a pedometer. It counts the number of steps taken, calories burned and distance traveled – making it easy to reach that daily goal of 10,000 steps. Numbers and data are a great motivator, especially on days when you need a little extra push. This is also perfect for when you are on vacation. Grab the Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport and take a stroll down the beach to get a gorgeous shot of the sunset AND get your daily steps in. It won’t even feel like exercise and you don’t have to worry if the phone drops into the ocean.

With Food Tracker you can keep track of the amount of calories consumed throughout the day. Just enter in the foods eaten and it does the rest. The options on S Health are numerous, it even has you covered when eating out. This is also especially helpful for those busy mom days when you actually aren’t eating enough (which can be just as bad as eating too much!)

It also tracks exercises like Running, Walking or Cycling, by time, distance or calories burned. I also recommend trying MapMyFitness. It uses GPS to track all fitness activities, and records workout details including duration, distance, pace, speed, elevation, calories burned and route traveled on an interactive map.

Hey, Get Off Your Butt!

I LOVE the lines of apps from North Park – especially their Squats Pro app. This app is really basic but accomplishes so much. This app uses gravity induced counting to actually sense when you’re doing a squat, by holding your phone straight out in front of you at chest level as you squat.

It’s very accurate and doesn’t allow you to cheat the squat either. Based on your age and body status it tailors a training plan for you. It then charts your progress, tracks your calories burned and even reminds you to work out.

Choose Your Workout

The Workout Trainer app has thousands of free workouts that are guided by a certified personal trainer. There are also  step-by-step audio, photo and video instructions. You begin by entering in your basic information age/weight. Then choose your area of focus. I want to loose weight, gain and tone muscle.  From there I choose a program. A program is personally designed by trainers.

I can create my own workouts then share them with friends! Or I can follow along to workouts with audio instructions. They also offer a free virtual fitness wizard to customize your workout.

What are your favorite fitness apps that keep you going all year long?

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Sprint. I received a product sample to facilitate my review and to thank me for participating.
