I don’t know about you, but I’m a habitual over packer. I find myself trying to pack an outfit for each item on the itinerary during jam-packed weekends. Instead, check out these tips for mixing and matching to give yourself multiple outfit changes for a weekend getaway with less clothing. The key to this strategy is to make sure to select clothing items that work well together and can be used interchangeably. Check out this packing list as an idea of how to pack “light” for a weekend away.

Light Packing List For a Weekend Away

Three Tops

Most tops can be rolled tightly to take up minimal space so this is where you can give yourself an extra option. Make sure the tops go with your choice of bottoms in both cut, style and color. When in doubt, opt for neutral colors and pack fun accessories or scarfs to mix things up.

A Dress

Preferably a day to night dress that is made of a wrinkle free material (no one wants to have to iron on vacation!). Choose a dress in a style and cut that allows you to switch from day to night with the addition of some jewelry or a clutch and change of shoes.

Two bottoms

Choose items that can be used for every activity whether that’s shorts or skirts or capris. If you pack colorful or printed tops choose solid or neutral bottoms and vice versa. If you know you will be going out often, then make one of those a nice skirt that can be dressed up.

One Bikini

This one is pretty self explanatory. Even if you spend most of your time at the beach, one bikini and bathing suit should suffice for such a short trip.

Two Pairs of Shoes

You will want one pair of shoes that go well for dressy evenings and a pair of flats or comfortable sandals. If you won’t be needing dressy shoes, pack a pair of sneakers or hiking boots instead. You will want to wear your comfortable shoes to the airport to save space in your luggage.

All of these items should pack easily in a carry on with room to spare for undergarments, makeup and more! All that’s left is determining where you will vacation. There definitely isn’t a shortage of options with U.S. Marriott Resorts thanks to 34 Marriott, Renaissance, JW, Gaylord, and Autograph Collection properties across the United States.

Everywhere from Hawaii to Florida, the resorts all feature pools, spas, signature cocktails, and incredible dining options. Many resorts also feature family-friendly fun like water slides, lazy rivers, golf courses, dive-in movies, and more. Families can make s’mores at the nightly campfire at the JW in San Antonio, catch a concert at L.A. LIVE, or try the incredible sushi at the Marco Island Marriott.

It’s no wonder they’re such an ideal place for weekend getaways with the family, especially during the CELEBRATE SUMMER EVENT where you can get up to $100 in resort credits for each day you stay, to be used on site at one of the many restaurants, spas, etc available. It’s basically like getting up to $100 bonus dollars to spend each day you stay – which means you get to worry less about your budget.

The Celebrate Summer Event is running through 9/7. Book your stay at Marriott.com before September 7th to take advantage of this event.

  2. I’m actually really good at light packing. I stick with the basics and keep it easy. I don’t want to have to haul around a bunch of stuff I don’t need.
